Magnatone 280

I read that the magnatone 280 is 50 watts but is actually only 25 per channel. Does that mean if you hook both channels together (with a patch chord) you can get the full 50 watts!?

It's a stereo amp, plug into the correct input and you'll get both output section with a full 50w...

Ok, first off, are you really worried about the difference between 25 watts and 50 watts?

You understand that the difference is only 3db? In order to get TWICE as loud, you need 10X the wattage. So I could see if you were worried about a 250 watt amp only putting out 25 watts. But 25 to 50 is such a small difference to hardly be noticeable in a live setup.

That said, if both your speakers are working, then you're playing the amp at full output...so don't worry about it. Which, (not to muddy the waters) I believe is probably closer to 40 watts output, not 50. But as I said, you're splitting hairs at such small wattage difference.

So does that mean a magnatone 213 will be almost just as loud as a magnatone 280?

Magnatone 213 has 20 watts

and

Magnatone 280 has 50 watts

According to the above statement, does that mean a 213 will be around the same volume as a 280?

Thanks Much

No. The Magnatone 280 should be a good bit louder than the Magnatone 213. But the biggest reason the 280 should be a good bit louder is that it has two 12" speakers whereas the 213 just has one. Double the speakers and you double the amount of air you can move. That doesn't necessarily double the volume, but it would make for a noticeably louder amp.

So would the magnatone 260 (35 watts) and the 280 (40 to 50 watts) be around the same volume considering the above info.

Also,

The 280 has 4 6973 tubes and the 260 has 2 6l6 tubes:

Will the 280 crunch up more since the 280 has 4 small tubes compared to the 2 big 6l6's in the 260?
