Tracking Finished on Debut Album

After over fifteen years behind the glass producing and engineering other people's music, I finished basic tracks on my first solo album today. We cut ten great songs of my original material in three days at Bruce Robison's Premium Recording in Austin, with me producing and engineering with assistance from Nick Dotin and Phil Hill. My band includes Rich Brotherton on guitar (who's also Robert Earl Keen's producer/guitarist), Scott Esbeck (Charlie Robison, Jack Ingram, Los Straitjackets) on bass and Keith Robinson (Charlie Robison, Marcia Ball) on drums. Everyone contributed to the arrangements and brought their best chops and ideas to the gig.

Working at Premium was the best recording experience I've ever had. Bruce's vintage Quad Eight Coronado (which we used exclusively for tracking) sounds fantastic. First time I was ever able to track overheads with a pair of matched U-67s...like buttah! The tracking room sounds great, all the gear is in top shape, can't wait to mix.

Here's a pic of the band with my ever-present Fairchild in the background. My former studio partner Nick is in the tie-died UT shirt next to me. Then a shot with a better view of the Quad Eight.
