Hi all, This is my first post on this forum! This forum has been a major asset in my decision making process about my new gear upgrade. After listening to a friends Pro Tools Mix Plus, recordings/mixes, I loved the clarity of his mixes when compared to mine. He and another gentleman advised me to upgrade my mic pre, A/D and D/A converters. So after much research and listening, I purchased a Groove Tube Vipre Mic Pre, Apogee Rosetta 96k 2 Channel A/D converter, and a Benchmark Media DAC-1 D/A converter. I'm using the Rosetta as a master wordclock and distributing wordclock through a Lucid GenX6. I'm using an AKG TLII for vocals and now my mic line is smokin'!! I'm currently using my Ramsa DA7 for monitoring via AES/EBU while I track directly to DP via ADAT Lightpipe from my Apogee converter then to my 2408MKII. I'm still having great success with DP 3.02, OS 9.22, Quicksilver Dual 1gig, 3 PowerCore cards, Magma Expansion chassis, TC PowerCore MasterX5, Oxford Eq, ClassicVerb, and Chorus/Delay, Altiverb, Waves Renissance Collection 2 (Deesser!), Bombfactory Classic Compressors, Fairchild 660, and Autotune 3. I haven't moved to DP 4 yet because I'm having such great success with DP 3.02 and OS 9.22. However, I can and will say that the Groove Tubes Vipre is, and I'm sure, one of the most awsome, flexiable, and usable mic pre and direct box on the planet!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ |

Very cool - congrats. I too use a Rosetta for A/D and master clock and a DAC1 for D/A duties. I'm finally very happy with the results out of my DP rig (my Summit TPA-200B dual tube unit is my main preamp). An aside -- the TLII is a fine vocal mic, but be aware that it probably won't work on every vocalist, every song -- you ought to pick up a high quality dynamic mic or two (SM7, RE20, MD441). I love my U195 for vocals and lots of other sources too (acoustic guitar, guitar amp, etc.). These two other mic directions should give you a good variety of viable choices for all sources (especially through your Vipre!) -- I'd be worried going into a session without mic choices (I've totally ruined some songs by using a 4033 on the vocals where even an SM57 would have saved the day -- easily avoided; I'd hate to see it happen to others). Congrats on some great choices and good music to ya'!
