I will sell one hundred records :)

So, I was reading a post where someone said they'd sell one million records ... and because it's my nature to be the underachiever, I'd just like to document that I, too, shall sell records ... one hundred of them, in fact. How am I going to do this? I don't know.

On a serious note, I'm happy to be making decent progress on my next album and I'm quite happy to have some good people working with me. Im especially happy to have had the chance to record a duet with a really good singer. That's my good news.

Now here's the current demo of the song we're working on ...

You will sell one hundred files! Shouldn't be too hard, from the sounds of it.

Yeah it is kinda weird that people (including me) call em records. But yes technically I think I'm really talking about song files. The only people that buy CDs get em when we play live.

Hey, is this right ... seems like, anymore, charts report more on song sales than album sales. Another sign of the times ... people no longer buying the entire album.

First time I was struck by this incongruity was a review of a new Mariah Carey album, sometime in the 90's, and the phrase that jumped out was "she sings every note on her record."

Wait, that couldn't have been it, that's borderline idiotic-- of course she's singing the notes, what other option is there...?... was he referring to an absence of auto-tuning? If you hypnotize me, maybe I could recall the whole context of it...

Anyways, this was well past the "record" era, but for the reviewer to have said "she sings every note on her CD" would not have had the same punch-- and so this was the dawn of using the word "record" in a generic way, and since then I've heard people say "our record" as a way to, frankly, heighten the importance of their "recording project"-- implying that it had the same legitimacy as people who did actually produce real records.

When in fact... far from it.

Wow, how cool! If the male vocal is you I'd say you are a really vibey and excellent singer, sir. Good vibes!! May you fail and accidentally sell 1000 or more and puzzle yourself.

Thank you very much guys. Yeah that's me and the girl is Ilana, who usually does vocal tracks for electronic dance music.

Not to be rude, but I'll just spout out straight now....when you record it she has to grab the tune by the nuts a bit more. She has a really nice tone, but it sounds like she's chasing the tune still, not riding it, not familiar with it yet, tentative pitching, bit shaky, etc. Likely a bit of a different vibe for her compared to recording EDM. But she can do it! Just make sure between you it gets done and don't let her get away before it's in the can. SO WORTHY!!!

You, however are fekking SURFING that shit in your sleep, man!! Coolest vocal I have heard in a long time. And now I'll go press play again....

Got any more stuff one could listen to?

Dude ... that was a huge compliment. Thank you so much!!! I have a soundcloud account where I put up demo versions of stuff I'm working on. Otherwise my first album is out there on the regular sites, just punch in my name to find it.

Thanks for the good words. I really appreciate that. We wrote and recorded basically in one night. I was lucky enough to sing it start to finish in one take and that's the take we used. One and done ... first time I've done that.

Thanks again. We'll make it better.

Sound great for me. If anything watch the distance to the mics when recording and don't get too close. Around the 'bus' lyric you both get a bit close and it pops the sss and toppiness a little.

Ha! I just did a search on pretty much this exact thread title. Looking to see if this was covered in any semi-serious/semi-comical way. It seems that most people indulge in the grandiosity of becoming mega-millionaires through the fickle songwriting lottery. But what about the rest of us that just want to sell a couple of albums (or...err...files) to justify in a small way the expense, both monetarily and artistically, of putting our material out there. I think I've given away about 10 copies of my album, and when I say "given away" I mean that I pretty much forced people to take them. I wonder if there are any good strategies for shooting for the reasonable, not the moon.

BTW, great tune, Brian (OP). I liked the light-hearted yet evocative vibe of the song. Have you reached your goal yet?

Her voice isn't too boring actually, she needs better technique to be able to sing in the style she's trying though, I hear some entonation issues, you're spot on though damn you lol
