MOTU returns!
I bought a MOTU 896HD on ebay and it was slightly defective. (one of the preamps was shot)

Then I discovered that MOTU provide a set rate $99 repair policy when you register the product.

So you get a MOTU serviced unit, with a 6 month warranty for $99 and postage.

In my case, the eBay seller refunded me the 99 bucks! Double win!
