Just bought a pair of Neumann KH120!

And they are awesome! I demoed them against the A7X, and the bass is really tight and accurate in comparison. They are so small, yet pack a real punch.
The bass was very accurate down to 60Hz-ish.

They are a huge step up from my prior HS50m, and a lot more accurate than my Rogers LS3/5A. Non-fatiguing and simply great to listen to (for linear speakers).

The first mix I did today translated really well. Finally what I thought sounded great in the studio, actually sounded great in other locations.

So a huge thumbs up for a great product!

Now, more bass traps

Congrats on the Neumanns!
I'm still using the LS3/5a's.
Curious about if you need to play the 120's loudly to get the port working well. Also, the LS3/5a's are a little weird in that the bass extends to about 70 Hz, where there's a fall off, but yet it seems like something is happening a lot further down-like the roll off per octave is not so extreme. But it's fair to say they don't have real extension.

Anyway, congrats on the Neumanns!

Did you listen to any smaller Genelecs, like the 8020?

I like flat speakers, so I'm sure the 120's would do very well for me-and many people whose work I respect-and do the same things I do-love them!

Enjoy!

I did listen to the 8020! They sounded thin and hyped (too much high end) in comparison.

What do you mean about getting the port to work? I've calibrated the monitors for 83dbSPL, and that's with the output set to minimum and just a little gain.

What amp do you use with the LS3/5A's?

Not surprised, I just haven't had the opportunity to have them side by side.

That's the level I prefer. Do you feel you have all of the low end at that level? (You probably do, I'm just checking.)

I use a very small amp (c. 35w RMS into 8 ohms, the Rogers are >12 ohms) that images nicely, but it couldn't drive them loudly if I wanted them to. When I did sound reinforcement years ago, I once connected them to a monster sized PA amp. That experience was nothing short of amazing-not so much in volume (though it could be had), but in terms of low end extension and sound stage.

I really don't want to go down that route for a number of reasons, so when I decide to move from the LS3/5a's, I will be looking at the Neumanns. Of course, I can still keep the LS3/5a's. However, as I don't anticipate an increase in housing space........

I don't mean to bog you down in questions, but I thought you'd have some useful comments-and you did!-thanks.

Congrats again on your monitors. I'd love to have them. And I'd be psyched!

Yes, but I always reference on my headphones (HD580) as well.

Regarding the amp, I've been using a 8 ohm 35W amp as well, although the LS3/5A are 15 ohms. Been working good, but as you say, I can't play loudly.
