Matt Corby - Best voice I've ever heard?

It's been a while since I'd been so affected by a voice..

He came second in Australian Idol when he was 16, good thing he didn’t win, cos now he’s doing this kind of thing..

Listen all the way through!

Amazing cover..

Someone having the "best voice" is highly subjective! He's good yes. I wouldn't listen to him on my own time but if you enjoy his music, that's great. More power to you and him!

Excellent voice, and a refreshing lack of the over-embellishment syndrome. Compact and very dynamic phrasing. It's a total diversion from the ridiculously disingenuous hyper-processing of vocals we've all been bombarded with over the last 10 years. ----- Along with Adele and Bruno Mars, Matt Corby is a raw, transparent, honest, retro-stylist with musical integrity and genuine talent.

Totally subjective I agree, I guess it was the surprise of seeing an Idol finalist bucking the trend a bit, giving me an emotional connection with the song that I hadn't experienced for a while.

It's also not often I'm impressed by the vocal chops AND the timbre. It's normally one or the other.

Let's be honest here, he sounds better than I ever will

I mean...

ps: Doesn't Matt Corby's style remind you of Elliot Smith?

Australian idol has amazingly had some great artists come through the ranks - Lisa Mitchell comes immediately to mind.

It's great how this guy keeps getting better every year. I liked his previous folky stuff but this is something else...

Matt has a great voice. Here's another singer, Dan Merrill. I consider him the best non-'big time' male vocalist.
He'd won best rock vocal in a Just Plain Folks competition out of thousands, for the performance linked below.

The song is 'Weight Of The World', by Simon Apple, from Philadelphia PA. Weight Of The World by Simon Apple

He actually lives in Portland ME. Picked from hundreds demoed to replace Simon Apple's former singer/guitarist
John Feldmann. Echoes of Richard Page (Mr Mister) and on the big notes near the end Steve Walsh of Kansas.
