Room treatment a myth? Only half true!

Actually, just too simplified. Yesterday, for the first time in a long time I lit up a little puff the magic dragon with some friends and man it was such a trip

But the beautiful thing, besides hallucinating colors, was how my ears became over sensitive and finally, I was able to find the SWEET SPOT in my room and I tell you, it was like listening to music on a sweet Hi Fi..

Now I finally think my Dynaudio Bm5As are so worth it! I wasn't planning to get room treatment and after finding how decent my untreated room can sound with some treatment to sound like the sweet spot!

For the doubters, i can only describe it as a place with an especially sonically balanced place in your room and when you listen to music, you can hear all the details you normally wouldnt.. a -1 db boost or cut makes noitceable differences!

so.. ive been in many treated rooms before but until i could put it into context how a room ive been listening to music and writing music for months can sound better, i never was convinced room treatment could make such a difference...

In other words, If you dont have room treatment, find that sweet spot in your room, and then ask yourself, is the cost or time of getting room treatment (for DIYers), worth hearing muisc whever you are in the room similar to this? And whether room treatment is a myth or not too :P)

imo YES!!!

Uhm... some of us want us to have that "sweet spot" in more places than just a confined 1x1 square meter. I like to stand up, sit on the sofa, behind the racks, and still be able to judge my mix. This can only be accomplished with good room treatment.... or with a great big blunt

Some "myths" are only "myths" because some people haven't arrived at the point where they actually understand what it's about and what's the difference. So congratulations for learning some more.

Yesterday I spent a good 3 to 4 hours setting up monitors/listening spot in our new test room, which is totally untreated. After a lot of room tests, math and so on I did find the "best" spot but it still has huge nulls, peaks and ringing going on. Moral of the story is, YES setting up properly is VERY IMPORTANT but that will only give you the opportunity to really fine tune the room with treatment.

i think people don't realize how much your walls affect the sound. atm i have two untreated rooms. one is mostly build from drywall and decay time is already short (around 450ms at 50hz). the other room is concrete and without treatment decay time in low frequencies is around 3seconds! you can't even tell what notes bass is playing.
so i think lot's of people who have experience with one room don't realize that each room is different. and yes in some you can have great mixing results without any treatment. it just depends on where are windows, how your walls are built etc.
