Thread Starter | Heavy Metalcore mix contest !
Hi to all of you ! I'm a drummer in a heavy metal/hardcore band from France and we begin to be a little known around there, lots of tour dates, first album recorded in 2004 (shitty sound unfortunately) when there was the former drummer. Actually i'm in the band since last october and we really want to record something new with the actual lineup, as the things evolued a lot since the last recording, new songs and tighter playing too. I work in a small project studio in Switzerland, which someday I want to my first job. We are two "sound amateur" guys working there and make the studio improve from month to month when it comes to the gear (and also the skills, I feel it). My band and me decided to record ONE song in the studio this weekend, a song we wrote a few monthes ago and which we do like a lot. We hope it will be OK, and we have a lot of new gear to test in the studio (API, Chandler TG2, A-Designs Pacifica, Purple Audio Biz pres ; Royer, U95 mics ; Apogee Bigben working with our two MOTU HD192...). We plan do the mastering at the Cutting Room studios (www.cutting-room.se) which did a great job on a lots of metal and hardcore bands. ... but the question now is : HOW/WHERE TO MIX IT TO GET A GOOD SOUND ? I had the following idea a few days ago, and you guys have to tell me if it is realistic or not at all : a mix contest on Gearslutz. - I'd put the tracks on an FTP server, where everyone can download the files (24 bits / 96 khz AIFF or WAV) - Everyone'd be able to download them and mix them in their studio/home-studio and then post the result as an extract on Gearslutz - We'd choose the mix that sounds the best to us and send it to the mastering facility This is not a money trade because we are not very rich. Participate who wants to. The engineer name and his studio name will be mentionned everywhere the song will be promoted. The song's goal is only promotion, so we won't do any financial benefice from it. Is the idea good ? I know you want to hear the tracks before trying anything, but if you think the idea is cool and if some of you want to try a mix, then I'll post the tracks as soon as I get them. What do you think of that ? |

sounds like fun I would consider uploading 44.1 khz files just to save a little on the bandwidth. Travis |

I always end up wanting to re-cut tracks when I get stuff to mix. Then it ends up being a lot work. Mix stuff from another studio is sometimes like going into a kitchen with a huge pile of Dirty dishes. The quextion that plagues me is .. Where do I start? |
