I've only been listening to this guys music for about 24 Hrs, but had already read so much negative BS on this forum before, that I stupidly thought I knew him and his music from 2nd hand opinions.
What's going on here?? Are there so many people at GS frustrated or only concerned with gear acquisition that they can't recognize real talent when so many out there obviously do?
If you can't see and feel that this moment in this club was pure magic and masterful musicianship then what to do...
One thing I realized at an early age watching adults around me: If you can't understand the taste or preferences of younger generations around you, or even condemn them, IMO, it is a pretty clear indication that:
1. You're getting old.
2. By definition you will most likely no longer be at the forefront of anything that is going on in the world.
The future belongs to the younger generations and their ideas.
I for one am grateful that Deadmau5 makes music that moves and inspires people, even uplifts them. What more can you ask from a musician in this day and age?
best

Deadmau is a talented guy. I have ocasionally seen him in youtube on shity phone video but immediatelly felt some inspiration inside. Cause guys, the only things that we do from heart have potential to break through, otherwise it is all about porn with gearing & wiring)
Be open minded to what others do cause we are all assesed in the amount of we able to appraise others, Omen.
deadmau5 is alright, I like his stuff but it never really wows me. always seems to boil down to the same type of dance beat with some funky keyboard lead
if you ask me, the stuff skrillex is doing is far more groundbreaking
Just saying the revolution wont be led by a "DJ" its just good entertainment, I think bob Dylan said all this "Times are a changing" Jerry garcia said it, "Old and in the way"
Remember the keys to success at work "Do you want fries with your burger"

Bullshit. Plenty of young people I know completely condemn the current generation of music.
i think he is talented. I don't think he is in any way cutting edge. I think he makes use of what cutting edge artists have done making it more palatable making more people interested in the genre.
master of music. Lets not get carried away. Pretty good at production, ya i agree. Able to make music with mass appeal , yup , able to create a brand that is easy to market, yup but he is , and i think he would admit himself that he is an absolute noob regarding musical matters.
I mean lets give credit where credit is due. yes alot of people are overly negative but I think calling him, or anything does as the work of a genius ? He has not done anything at all even worth a few words in Grooves. No new harmony, no new melodies, nothing new on the production side, nothing about his sound pallet that is new or cutting edge. He made nice music. That doesn't meet the requirement of master.
I've finally took some time to listen to Deadmau5 and it's pretty cool. The newer 4x4=12 sounds more interesting than the older "Random Album Title". It's a lot more techno (less electro house) than I thought it would be.
His music sounds more like fitting pieces of previous genres together in a new combination rather than a creative personal style. I think that's somewhat interesting in itself though.
Update: Liking his music more and more. Nothing breakthrough or too original, but it's got a fresh sound and good energy to it. First time in a while I've felt the need to turn the volume up.
If you think it takes talent to program four bar beats...and boring ones at that to infinity, do some acid or something. I do hand it to him, that he is successful in his genre...it takes real genius to get large crowds to show up...or maybe it just takes a big stupid looking mouse head...either way, if you're making money in the music business, and you're drawing a crowd, that takes some business sense and skill. And when he gets sick of the travel and the hotel rooms, he can stick his brother or cousin under the mouse head and stay home and remain sane. And maybe he's like 70 years old...but under the mask, nobody knows...all that stuff..pure genius. The music, not so much.
L.
His production sounds real good. Master, no way. Raise your weapons is the only thing that really stands on its own in my opinion. I kinda like the indie rock influenced vocal on that track. I want to think hes great, I really do. I keep giving him chances. Once in a while he puts out a great track.
I agree partly, in the end the listener is all that matters, would you rather have 100,000 of vintage highend gear and have no audience or a laptop and controller and move millions. It's a different time , all genres cross new music everywhere. When people say they hate Dubstep I laugh it's obvious their too old or have never heard it in proper context tons of bass and pretty birds sounds good to me. It's obvious it takes "less" talent to succed but what do we measure that by music theory or a successful livelihood
Im not into dance or electronic music. I heard a interview with him and he played some of his stuff and blew me away. This guy rocks. Really cool and down to earth too from what I could tell. I was in my car which has a beefed up system in it and it sounded awesome. My car was shaking. Not sure if I could listen for a long period of time but he is at the top of his genre. Deservedly so. Live he wears a a mock up mickey mouse mask.
