| Clearmountain/Mann Appreciation Thread I've been on an Aimee Mann kick the last few days. After listening to some of her newer records, I put on Whatever (1993) tonight. The opener, "I Should've Known" is a total case study in how to mix rock with big, loud guitars and maintain a present vocal that you can crank up and never get hurt. Everybody always talks about carving niches in the mix frequency-wise—Bob did it with guitar rides. It's a brilliant bit of mixing and guys making this modern, noisy-ass KROQ pop-rock could learn something. Also, the 2nd cut "50 Years After the Fair" simply has the most beautiful bass tone ever. Thank you, Bob. |

| Fantastic record and mix. I agree in todays super squashed and pumped up mixes it is really a great example of hard work being better than slamming the shit out of it with a compressor. Bob is a genius and never looses sight of the song. Michael Greene |

| My favorite mixer. My favorite of all his work: Crowded House "Woodface". Check out the multiple ambiences for the vox on "Fall At Your Feet." Best....H |

I second the ups for Woodface. Two other guys who are great at pushing the big guitar mix without killingthe vocals are JJ Puig and John Leckie. Geoff | |
