The "it" however having remained the same object.

So, what you "don´t hear" might be heard by you tomorrow, or be heard by someone else today, or even being there unnoticed.

"If you don´t hear a difference" all it means is that you don´t hear a difference. That has nothing to do with the fact of being.

Ever bumped with your head into an open closet door? ( I have. ) You hadn´t seen it, but it persisted on being there, wasn´t it?

Right on, Ruphus! As an example, I am somewhat visually impaired, so if I don't see something, it doesn't mean it's not there. A more practical axiom might be "If

but when you are the man in charge in the control room, it is what YOU hear.. and if it feels good to you it should be good to most people out there. that´s what differentiates the pro´s from the amateurs.

That´s the point. It is a "should", not an "is".
So, correctly it can only be "If you don´t hear a difference there might eventually be no difference."

It remains useless.

What makes sense instead is the opposite; to realize the subjectivity that we are prone to and which you mentioned before, and trying to educate oneself in order to minimize that
That is the common way to good work, not the "there is what I believe"- attitude, which can only leave you without progress and clue on the matter.

And right, looking back on oneself and finding how one sucked, generally indicates the right direction. Such belongs to my personal daily discoveries.
