South Africa.. Mmhz.
I have some mixed up feelings. Prodigy come's to the mind in image wise way. The little voice of the girl reminds me of Aqua and the synths from early 90's Dutch hardcore with hiphop beats.

At first i was confused and shocked but the more i listen, the more i like.
The girl's voice is amazing imho, and the attitude is rude as hell.
You got to listen to the album to get the whole picture.
Peace

They have their moments.

Waddy comes up with strange concepts every so often. His "Max Normal" stuff from a year or two ago was completely different. All amusing stuff if you understand what they're saying. Reminds me of Sacha Baron Cohen's Borat at times.

Well that it is interesting, I don't hear a lot of this "kind" of music coming from south africa. I'm part dutch and know south africa a bit. My dad lived there in his younger years and I'm often in Kenia.

But I listen to the album today in the studio and I dig it.

I agree, it's certainly interesting, not my kind of music but this in your face and I find it hard to turn away. Only *recent* album I have from SA is Vusi Mahlasela's new record, very different from this! Still good though.

Strangely I listen to these tracks and thought of District 9 and the soon to take place world cup, might be a nice time for SA soon. I hope so.

Is it a parody style of music? I'm confused. Post it in the Hip-Hop section, see if they don't get ripped up to shreds in a second

This is not for the common hiphop head.

It's not fake at all and that NME article is very strange (but thanks for posting it). Look at the hits on youtube for that one song, is it something like 200000/day? Incredible. This is how to .. i will sell a million ..

I loved the ali-g meets district 9 line in the NME article though.

Catchy song.

I'm just the messenger - I don't confirm nor deny the content of the article, just thought it a fun read.

Personally, I wouldn't listen to this sort of music, but Die Antwoord is pretty damn addictive. Funny that these guys are clever enough to do an "artistic statement" that's probably better than 99.9% of the existing stuff out there, because guys like me actually dig it. Great beatz... yeah. Deluded-million-record-selling-wannabe guy from that other thread really could learn something from them.

It may be hard to believe but this act will get huge fast, they will be at all the major festivals this summer.

It's like a crazy dubstep mixture of mental theo, aux raus, fisherspoooner and EMF.

I saw these guys live. I think they are the best band I've heard in the last 10 years, and I'm totally serious. I think that they, and the style 'Zef', can be more influencial than the Sex Pistols and 'Punk'. Maybe they will be the end of rap and hiphop music as such, much like the Pistols were really the end of rock n roll - any other rap act you've heard of nowadays seems like a complete joke compared to them.

Actually there are a lot of similarities between them and the Sex Pistols. Also they remind me of Aqua, with a male rapper and a female with a cartoonish voice - and the way they portray themselves as almost like real life superheros is very similar to Aqua portraying themselves as 'Cartoon Heroes', in addition to the largely sexually explicit lyrics. I think a lot of people will also completely miss the point, as with Aqua, and regard them as 'white trash' and manufactured or fake or whatever other shit haters will bring up.

I don't know what to think of this. I might have liked it a bit if it wasn't for the "interview".

Apparently the one that looks like Vanilla Ice is genuinely impressed that his "homey" has a PC-type-computer at his disposal.

They're not as utterly irritating as BrokeNCYDE, and there does appear to be some genuine social commentary in their lyrics along with the calculated attention seeking crap. They're worth thinking about some more.

I'm pretty sure that's part of the joke, along with openly saying that they still live with their parents/grandma. Hardly any bands admit to that, even if it is the case.

(Not my cup of tea!)

Took me back to the days of 'ice ice baby' and Falco..... Does seem like he's a fan of Borat as well.

More power to anything that makes it, good music or not.

It's more of an conceptual art project than a music project. But I still like it.
