Thread Starter | Mixing Anthony Jackson!!! This friday, Nov 6, I'm mixing John Tropea (famed guitar player from the Blues Brothers, countless hits, Paul Simon records, etc). That was exciting enough, and the bass player was originally supposed to be Will Lee...even better! I just learned that in place of Will Lee, Anthony Jackson will be sitting in on bass! I attended the National Guitar Workshop when I was 17 (1987) and Jackson did a seminar at the time. This seminar blew my mind and provided me with the focus and seriousness of purpose in approaching my career that doesn't always come naturally to a high school student. I happened to tape it on my boom box. I must've listened to that tape 1000x. Down times when the phone wasn't ringing, up times when I was faced with a new exciting challenge, it always picked me up and set my head right. I never imagined I'd get the opportunity to work with the man, shake his hand and thank him for all he did for me. The band is also featuring the original Blues Brothers horn players Lou Marini and Tom Malone along with Chris Palmero (Hammond) and Cliff Almond (drums). There are still a few tickets left for anyone on NJ Shore (Asbury Park). Tim McLoone's Supper Club: 732-774-1155. And I can promise, the soundman WON'T be off getting a beer.... ![]() |

Thread Starter | In 1987 he had just reduced it by 1/2 to what was still huge. Hey, I'm not his roadie .The only thing that really sucks is that the bass is so messed up in the room we're in. The stage is a big hollow plank of wood that acts as a subwoofer, only not the fun kind. You don't feel it on stage, but it projects like 10x more in the house. It'll be rough but still an honor. We'll make it work. Worst case is we get a bass-heavy mix. Not such a horrible thing under the circumstances. I might pick up a GRAMMA before the gig. Kinda been meaning to anyway. When we have Gerald Carboy come in I give him a dedicated mix on a floor wedge that sits in front of the stage. That winds up being like 80% of his volume. It's still bass heavy, but that's just because that's the way he wants it. |

Thread Starter | Wow, this band kicks ass. AJ's playing through a tiny Hartke system (Will Lee's rig actually . I'm getting a DI from a Radial J48.Oh yeah, I did buy a GRAMMA. It fixed everything. Pretty amazing. Best $50 I ever spent. Fantastic night! Every member of the band was outstanding. I'm mixing the same band at the same club on Dec 11, this time with Will Lee on bass. |
