my space rocks!!!

man, a cat hipped me to this about a year ago. so, i got a page, uploaded some pix and some songs, and spent about an afternoon getting "friends" to join. (this was back when you could find people using a keyword, like "house music" or something like that...)

well, it's been around a year, i do NO work to this site, i get about 10 or 15 new fans/"friends" a day, and i'm getting about 70 plays per day... more than alot of major artists!!!

a great way to get feedback on new trax, (no need to have them mastered to put them up there, because they don't sound all that great anyway...)

pretty fantastic promo opportunity! (ps... it helps to have a good looking pic!)

(ps, the guy who started it, tom anderson, was a rock/roller from san francisco, and moved down to santa monica to start it w. another guy... he sold the site to news corp / fox for $550 mill!!!! guess he can afford daniel lanois' neve!!!)

well I thought it might be worth setting up a page for our music after increasing hype about myspace, not sure if it's been worth it yet, we get about 1 friend request a week!

Cool stuff guys! Nice music all around. I like your stuff BattleAngel. I see you're playing with a show with Modena Vox. Ha ha, their bassisst grew up down the street from me. Say what's up to Thomas from Kevin in Columbus!!

What a small world.

Anyways here's mine: protoangel

whoa.

Man, I've been trying to check out all of your bands...but I'm on dial-up....and it SUCKS!

It's seems like you guys all got really good albums and songs. how are you guys doing this? By that, i mean the quality. All of our stuff sounds so fake and plasticky. I'm just glad i'm part of gearslutz...maybe you guys will drip some knowledge and help the sonically poor. i really liked cities of foam and arizona, but it's hard to listen w/ my connection. I should be getting cable soon, so i can listen to more after that.

you gearslutz aren't playin around!!! good job.

oh yeah...this other thread musta died...cuz i can't find it...here's our myspace:

I would reiterate for all to check Arizona (BattleAngel) & DimLights stuff. Dimlight - you had that track with the bird in the intro? Cant recall - Im not on my home comp but it seems like I heard some of your stuff a while ago and it was good stuff. Will check out the myspace pages later.

@Wagz:

Actually.. I like the lofi electro sound of your band. The vocal sound is intimate and warm.

The only suggestion I have is use samples of strings to make it more "natural" and maybe re-record the track thru some speakers in a room to get a "room sound" to blend back in. If you listen to Arizona ou can hear the sound of people and instruments in a room.

Also cities of foam... very nice!

Wagz,

I think your stuff sounds pretty good. As far as the plastic thing, it seems like that's because you're using some of the keyboard settings without the overtones... maybe try running your synths through guitar pedals...

oh man, all this gearslutz love is making me grin like a perverted schoolboy in a Japanese cartoon. I think it's hilarious that we have two forums now. Someone on the myspace forum said we're all going to end up actually becoming plug-ins... I fear that I agree, lol. The nicest thing about this now is that I can finally hear the music you guys are doing... such a diverse body of good stuff. Anyone who hasn't joined up for the gearslutz myspace group should definitely do it.

That GS myspace was a totally disrespectful act by someone...

They just took the name Gearslutz.com and started a myspace with it.... And promoted users from this site to go there.

Gearslutz.com obviously belongs to Julian Standon...It just isn't right to take that name IMO.

Maybe he meant well, maybe for personal gain? I don't know.

Jules was FN' steamed as he should have been.
Personally...I will refrain from that group for now...

respect...

really, you think so? I just see it as a way for us to list our music for fellow gearslutz... I'd be shocked and amazed if we started discussing gear or engineering on there. But it's nice to have a listing of all the Slutz with MySpace pages so that we can spam our music/concerts/products to eachother without having to clog up Jules' board. Was Jules really pissed? That surprises me, considering the completely benign nature of the MySpace appendix to this site.

I see your point... however... A lot of posters have already had a profile on that site for a while... I guess its just a way of saying 'ello over there...

Maybe we should all put a link to gearslutz on our profiles over there.

From what I've seen, the gruops are a passing fad which tail off quite quickly... And the "add friend" thing is a bit gimmicky... I mean, does anyone actually write to all their contacts, let alone know them on any meaningful level... Doubt it meself

well... I try to have contact w/ all of the important people on my list. Unfortunately, my god damned bass player sat up late one night and added like 300 chicks from California to our list, so now I'll never know who those people are, haha. And we do have a link to gearslutz.com - on arizonatheband.com

I literally am friends with nearly (99%) of my friends on there. I generally shy away from having 200 *****s on there. Now I dont really know you guys but I figure if we can spread our music among us and our friends then it's a pretty cool thing. and if that really bothers Jules then I will resign from that group, of course it would be cooler if Jules joined in

I'm glad you guys can keep up with your friends on there!

Theres a few exhibitionists out there who just add hunderds of "friends" as poss... And they don't alread t have a connection with anyone,,, Maybe I'm just jealous

Sometimes I add strangers, and sometimes strangers add me, but at one point all my friends were strangers, you know? I've met at least 100 new people in the last few months on myspace, and I've come to know some of those random people better through that site. It's a great tool for networking.

I actually had a girl who 'knew me' from myspace come to our last concert... which was a drunken mess, by the way, but still fun... and she ended up following me home after the show- but then following me around in person for the next week. I ended up having to use every single rejection line in the book before she got the hint, and it made me feel like quite the assbag. But that's what you get when you merge the online world with the off, sometimes. BTW- best meeting of online personalities I've ever had? No question about it, the Gearslutz NYC meeting when Jules came to town. I'm dying to have another one!
