By the way for those of you that don't know she directed Point Break.

And this strange video by this strange band. I think they're called Hot Joy Order or something like that.

P.S. For those of you that might not get it, the band is having some "goes to 11" parody fun.

There's a thread going on about it on AVSForum. It just got started since someone just posted the intial review of it. But he obviously loved it.

I bet they had a lot of fun making that video. Great slo-mo shots of the drummer swinging at the HUUUGE toms. lol

About Hurt Locker - here's a good review from the NY Times. Movie Review - The Hurt Locker - Soldiers on a Live Wire Between Peril and Protocol - NYTimes.com Makes me want to see it.

Just saw this movie, and I must say it was very refreshing to see such a well-made movie nowadays. You should thank your friend from me and my friends.

very cool, man......thanks!....and glad you liked it....i STILL haven't seen it...

a DP friend of mine - who does bigger hollywood stuff - for Disney, etc.
was saying the same thing about the pleasing quality of the actual visual content.

i think it was shot in 16mm (??)...the clips i've seen have a nice grainy, warmly-lit quality to them...

i'm not a film guy, though...

The movie is phenomenal. Probably my favorite war movie yet. Great stuff. I really don't know how anyone has balls big enough to do that job!

I just saw this movie and don't really agree. I just didn't care about the characters and it seemed kind of clunky. Not a bad movie, but best movie of the year?

I loved it.

And talking to my Iraq/Afghanistan war veteran friends, it has a different impact for us. The theme of war becoming 'normal' and comfortable really resonates with a lot of us, even if we weren't crazy EOD guys (god bless them). And every time I left to come home, I felt relieved, but also felt like I was abandoning my bros who stayed behind.

James Cameron described the Hurt Locker as the "Platoon of the Iraq War", and I think he may be right.

I enjoyed the film a lot. I took it as an expertly done subtle character study.

My thoughts exactly. Both the wife and I loved it. It must have been a great script for Guy Pearce and Ralph Fiennes to take such small parts.

Of course, I finally saw HL last summer - my wife and I enjoyed it.

Saw Mark and fam at his father's funeral a month or so ago - his dad was a great guy - too bad he couldn't live to see the Oscar wins.

I can't believe Hurt Locker swept up 6 awards - that is really insane.

Congrats to Mark, Kathryn and company.

I did think the sound editing and mixing were excellent, too. I have to say I'm surprised HL didn't get walloped by Avatar and some other films. It was just such a smaller budget film. I guess the subject really rang true for quite a few people - seems like some people here related to it, too.

Anyway, very good movie - and thanks for supporting a good old friend. Mark and his family really are good people. Mark's brother, Chris is a good comedic writer, as well - based in NYC. And I'll miss his dad - he really was one super kind, intense and joyful man.

Yes, in addition to writing the screenplay, Mark was also a Producer - so VERY involved in the making of the film - you have no idea. It was a small budget film - by Hollywood standards - so all hands on deck : )

I feel the same way. I actually got to where I liked being in the sandbox, and didn't want to leave..weird, eh. What was your mos? I was a bang bang.

youve posted that in a few threads now.. any particular reason? Some personal interest? anyway, better here than the congratulations thread(which seemed really out of place and borderline rude)

It was a great movie. About time that a really good , actors movie won instead of the style over substance BS that usually does.
