| Well, I just ordered my Avocet....(just blowing off steam) I've been planning on getting one eventually, just not this soon. My Mackie HUI went bonkers this weekend - writing pan automation when it shouldn't, faders pushing against my fingers(loss of touch sensitivity) and a pitched buzzing sound that moves from speaker to speaker. I figured my surge protector had finally expired as funky power is a common cause of crazy touch-sensitive fader activity. So... 30 minutes later I've picked up 155$ in power strips: 1 belkin Isolator, 1 APC SurgeArrester, and 1 4.99 Inland plain old power strip. Not surpisingly, the 100$ belkin made things worse, same with the APC. Plugin in the no-frills power strip and my HUI becomes usable again, at least the faders work(for now). The noise is still there and I find it's hard to clean up dialog tracks with a constant buzz in the foreground. So, after looking at some short term slightly cheaper solutions I figure it's time to bite the bullet and head over to mercenary. I'm fairly certain that I'll love it, but the 'dropped 2500$ on it now because my POS HUI finally crapped out' factor is damping my excitement. Anyway, as I said I'm just blowing off some steam. Now that I'm thinking about it, any word on the surround uprgrade? /jim

| Lives for gear | I was over there (Crane Song) a few weeks ago and saw one (surround version) sprawled out on the console... Didn't have a chance to mess with it, but Dave seemed pretty excited about it. Congrats though - I'm a 2-channel user myself. Great piece, worth every penny.

| You'll be very happy. I did the same upgrade only I still use my HUI at my small studio for fader duties. An A/B is just obsene. You'll shave a couple hours off each day with the avocet. Augh. That sounded like a jingle. |
