CD I Produced IS On The National Charts

I produced "Groove With Me" by Paula Atherton. It's a contemporary Jazz/R&B record that has Greg Adams from Tower Of Power, Cielli Municci from Special FX, and Many other special guests. I'm very proud of this, it's none of that smooth jazz elevator music crap with drum loops, it's all real excellent musicians really playing. As of today Groove With Me is #27 on the Radio & Records Indicator chart, #41 on the Smoothjazz.com national airplay chart and #6 on the Smooth Indiestar chart. We are at the beginning of our promotion campaign and I'm hoping we keep moving up the charts!

Well this is a unique situation. The artist is my wife. So I'd rather keep the business to myself. What I can tell you is this, the recording was done around my bookings, we recorded it all at the Musiclab except for a few guest tracks that were done in California.
It always sounds great in theory to think well I have a studio it won't cost us anything.
The reality is when you earn your living from recording it's hard to go and work after you killed yourself for a few weeks and you only have a day off and this is the only day you both have to get anything done. It took longer than it should have but I really think it came out well.

We recorded using 2" tape and Logic synced up. We used logic for edits and when we were recording drums to tape we would blow what we had into the computer until we had a take we liked. We also used logic for some midi and for additional audio tracks. Some of the songs had over 40 tracks so it would be 23 from tape and the rest from logic. We mixed analog thru my console which has 48 automated faders and we used
outboard. One of the interesting things that came up was midway thru the project I switched monitors. I had been using 4 different sets of speakers, which were Hafler TRM's, Mackie HR824's NS10's and a crappy set of radio shack speakers. After I completed a mix of the song There Aint Nothin Greg UBK came by with a pair of Focal Twin 6's, I still had the mix up and listening to what I had on the Focals was a revelation. I reprinted that mix based on adjustments I made while listening to the Focals. I also immediately bought a pair.

We really had a wonderful group of players on this project, Greg Adams, Cielli Minucci,
David Del'Homme, Schuyler Deale, Lionel Cordew, Onaje Allan Gumbs, Stanley Banks,
John Deley, Darin Brown, Bill Heller, Emedin Rivera, Steve Briody, Roy Dejesus, Vinny Connigliaro, Larita Gaskins and Naomion.
Anyhow if you're curious there are clips up at paulaatherton.com or myspace.com/paulaatherton. Thanks for your interest.

Sounds really really nice!

(You might consider (if you haven't already) a website makeover as part of your promotion campaign...)
