Smile Passed on a pair of 176's, SH Master Comp and an M49 to Buy my Mom a car...!

and it felt great!

I told my mom about 10 years ago that one day I would buy her a new car. That day came yesterday at 8:00pm. I have had a decent last couple years of work and have also treated myself to some decent gear for the studio but nothing felt better than to help increase the quality of life to someone I love, especially the one that essentially put me on the planet. My Mom is 56 and has Never owned a new car in her life, never. I could only afford the $18K I saved to get a car for her and I really wanted it to be Brand New just for the sake of it. I flew out to Arizona on Friday and took her out on Saturday.
I negotiated a fairly loaded Hyundai Elantra ES with a sunroof and a few goodies in it for that out the door. I haven't seen her that happy in 25 years. She really needed to feel like a kid again after the few hard years she had with my lousy Stepdad who is finally out of the picture now and my awesome Grandfather (Her Dad) passing away a few months back. Growing up really poor, I had quite a few dreams to some day "Make it", and though I am much more financially stable than I was as a kid and teenager those dreams have never faded. In fact looking back the past 20 years, I have been very fortunate on the outcome of all the decisions I have made over the years including the way I have felt this weekend.
Normally I don't really talk about personal stuff like this, especially in a blog, but the whole experience was so self satisfying, I thought I'd share my story and I have never been happier blowing money on something that will devalue so damn fast in my life. Let's all make the world a happier place. Cheers guys.

One the coolest, most generous things I've heard in a long time.

You are a saint, my friend!

That's what it's all about.

I constantly hear about "our type" only concerned with gear. Drives me nuts.
Way more to life than buying gear. Hell, I don't even like talking shop unless I'm actually in the "shop".

The wife and I just had a great day together and topped it off with an amazing meal at AOC.

I am certainly more sentimental about these events than the buss compressor setting of my last mix.

Don't get me wrong I wake up everyday thinking I'm the luckiest guy in the world, but I spent way too much of my past being "self-involved".
I've learned over the years that if I truly appreciate this life than I need to enjoy it once in a while.

Of course, I intend to work tomorrow, but what the hell, right?!

It's all about balance and a lot of juggling!

What a kind thing to do, and the great feeling you and your mom have from it won't fade like the value of the car!

This is the best story I've heard all day.

Take it from me, there's no better feeling than showing your family members and friends that you care, regardless of the dollar amount attached to the effort.

/just got my dad a $600 radar detector for his b-day
//he wasn't expecting it.

Saw this thread earlier, and meant to post.

Rob, your mom is a lucky gal to have her son do that. What a cool thing to do - hats off.

Thank god my mom hasn't driven since just after WWII - I could never imagine her behind the wheel, not matter what generation she grew up in!

We just landed our first brand new car today. Never thought I'd EVER be doing that, but shows to go, it can happen.

Best to your mom, and her sweetheart son!!!

Hey guys, just saw all these great posts.

Thank you so much for all the kind words. I am glad I could do this for her as she always supported my love for music and recording since I was 13. She helped me buy gear a few times when I was a kid and looking back, she probably couldn't afford too, but she never let on to it. Yeah, Mom never thought that this little guy would get her, her first new car.

Cheers, Guys!! Have a great weekend
