A Fun Mix

Some friends of mine were working on a demo a little over a year ago, so they flew me out to Chicago to record them. The demo helped them get a deal on Epic and they recorded a fantastic CD with GGGarth producing and Andy Wallace mixing. I got a call from the band last week and Sony wants them to put one of the songs I recorded on the CD. They are sending me the reels and I get to mix it too! I can't wait. I love doing this stuff.

As an aside, another band I recorded just got picked up by Epic and they took 90% of the CD as is. I got to go to Nashville and record 2 new songs with them. I had a great time.

All hail the Lord!

Man that's great news.

I might be in the minority here but I think Andy Wallace is one of the best mix engineers around. I haven't been keeping up with too much of what he's been doing lately but his early 90's stuff like Nirvana, Helmet and even the Sonic Youth album (Not to mention Shudder To Thinks' Pony Express, which has to be be one of THE BEST sounding rock records ever!) was very influencial on me (or at least I tried!) as an engineer.

And if they want you to mix one of your original songs for the album well... RESPECT! rollz

KEEP ON ROCKIN" DUDE !!!

Is it too out of line to ask who the band is? I'd like to pick a the CD or at least keep an eye out for it.

I got the mix done and it turned out great! The mix didn't get finished in time to make the US release, but it will be the B side of the first single. However, it will be on the Japanese, European, and Austrailian releases. Still plenty good enough for me that I got the call.

The band is called Chevelle, and you can see them on Ozzfest if you are interested.

The other band is called the Rock and Roll Worship Circus and their record is comming out on August 20th. I really like this band. We did the bulk of the record (14 songs) in eight days and it was only supposed to be a demo. Most of it is over two years old now.

The Worship Circus record was mixed to the M-79. Chevelle was mixed through a Cranesong HEDD into Pro Tools.

Hey Tony, can you e-mail me the name and # of those 3M guru's you had do the work on your machine? Mine needs some work and Bart and Corky are not responding these days.
