Where can a singer find original songs or songwriters?

I have a friend who is a singer who is interested in getting started - great voice but no songwriting experience. Can she go somewhere like ASCAP or BMI and some service like Taxi to get access to songs written by songwriters (and of course pay royalties if it sells)?

Sounds very good from what I have sampled. It isn't cheap, but the songs seem well put together and the playing and sound quality seem quite good. I might even try one if a can scrape a few bucks together.

funny, my drummer and i who are session players right now are starting up a production team together where we will either take songs and help arrange, or write songs for solo artists and the payment includes players, arrangement or songwriting, and full recording.

This is an old topic, but it's something that I've been curious about as well. It seems like it would be an interesting niche, as there are a lot of people who would consider themselves great vocalists, but aren't great talents at songwriting.

I recently came upon Rocket Songs/ that seems to work by getting other publishing companies to open their back catalogs of songs that never quite made it, but were written by professional songwriters. Could be useful.
