GTQ2 MK III Rocks like nobody's business!

Got one from High Profile Audio about a week and a half ago and have been loving it on electric guitar and vocals. The color and compression on vox is soooooo nice. I've been pushing the input gain to the point where distortion/compression becomes audible then backing off just a bit and, let me say, this IS the sound of Rock & Roll. I've heard it over and over on commercial albums but have never had my own color pre so it's just great to be able to do a take, play it back and finally think "Uh-huh, that's the way it should sound." I can see tracks sitting very well in the mix with very little work. Awesome pre from Aurora Audio!

I have had mine for almost year and couldn't be more happy with it. Try using it as a DI also.

Yeah, I can't wait to try it as a bass guitar DI. Don't have a bass guitar at the moment or I would have already tried it.

Yes. Yes! The GTP8 is nice as well. Sometimes you have to gloat.
The GTC2 is unbelievably versatile. Anytime I have something that is absolutely crucial (drum overheads in an important mix) or fubar and unfixable ITB, I will run it out to the GTQ2 and GTC2, and, within a minute or two I have something that totally blows the original away. I am a deicated ITB mixer, so, no analog snob here.

What are the FET and Opto colors like? Are they similar to 1176s and LA2As or does the box take things in it's own direction? Is it possible to use both channels in line on the same signal without switching cables?

I've never used a real LA2A, so I can't comment, except to say that the GTC2 opto sound totally blows away the UAD emulation. It's round and fat like my wife was when she was pregnant with our twins! The FET sound is perhaps a little 1176-ish, but I don't have one to here to A/B with.

You would have to patch it through to use both channels on the same signal, but why would you want to do that? You do have the option of using both compression circuits on the same signal (on each channel); I am sure GT would tell you that the GTC2 is very much its own beast. It is a lot of fun.

I love using two different compressors on vox, usually one slower with low ratio settings and one faster, acting more like a limiter so it would be great to be able to do this out of the box in the same unit. Right now I've got no outboard comp but I'm definitely interested in the GTC2. Maybe for Christmas...:)

I guess I've done that, not really thinking about it. I always track vocals with at least a conservative compression on them, then will occasionally go back later and use a heavier hand, but I more often (out of laziness I suppose) just stick a UAD-1 Fairchild across the vox bus - set to respond stereo independently.
