Thumbs up Why Mercenary Audio Rocks!

Maybe it's because I've always bought gear from some of the bigger retailers (out of sheer ignorance) and was just accustomed to things being a pain in the ass when it came to repair or issues with equipment I've purchased.

The story (sorry it's a bit long winded):

Someone spilled something on the front of my Drawmer 1968 compressor (if I knew who, I would kill them for sure), I thought I would just lift the knobs off and clean it a bit because they felt kinda sticky. Well, those knobs don't really come off very easily and after I pried them up a bit and cleaned under them I tried to push them back down. In doing so I heard a snapping sound (yikes!) and lo and behold, channel 1 was dead. Must have broke the circuit board.

I thought, "Oh, crap, this is going to suck", now I have to find out who does authorized service, find out where to ship it, and ultimately be out one comp that I truly love and use daily.

So, I emailed Mercenary (where I bought the unit) just to see if they had a suggestion as to where to send it. Fletcher himself emailed me back the same day letting me know that they would call and get me the RA, tell me where to send it, find out the turnaround, AND possibly get me a loaner in the meantime. How's that for customer service! I mean, it's not like they gain anything (other than my business for the rest of my career in audio) for going above and beyond like that.

Anyway, you guys get the idea, these guys are the best and I truly appreciate they're prompt response and help with my issue, just wanted to let everyone know.

Yep - I have to agree.... they're a prime example of how professional audio retail should be done!

I'll also give Fletcher a well-deserved

Last week I mentioned to Fletcher that I plan to measure an assortment of popular microphones often used for room testing, to see how well the low end stuff compares with expensive models. Fletcher graciously offered to loan me a Josephson 617 with Gefell M221 capsule so I could include it as a high end "reference" in my round-up. Wow, what a great guy - thanks Fletcher!

A good reputation takes years to build, and can be lost in an instant... these guys seem to be "keeping it up" so to speak.... and are where I'll be buying some nice 500 series stuff soon!

I love the no-pressure attitude they have there. I had two decently high end EQ's at my place for over 5 weeks, not having adequate time to use both in a timely fashion, and I never once got a call asking for either back. I was able to try both out and actually flipped flopped between which unit to keep a few times. If I had been rushed, I would have returned both.
