|O) First Own Standalone Shelter!

I bought a house today!
Big, bright and quiet.

Might be times coming when IŽll be playing the guitar in the night without dampening the strings. And IŽm trying to imagen how that would be: Playing at whatever volume as much as you like, and at any time of the day without bothering whether one might be disturbing people in the neighbourhood. ( Which I always do as mother tought me to be very considerate about peeps.)

CanŽt believe it yet. Gotta see how that would be.

Further, thereŽs a ground right next to the house for which IŽll be negotiating too. Should it all be working out that could be meaning some 800 square meters on which I might build a studio on.

A humble one, but with well proportioned ctrl room and hopefully just as well dimensioned live room ( gotta find out yet how a great live room should be shaped ). Also if things work out, made of wood.

Those of you who live in a wooden house know how appealing that is.

Anyway, for now a just-built house of stone and a nice one too in an area with good air.
Hope to be moving in within the next ~ 5 weeks or so.

Thank you very much, Eric!
Too much honour for me, but indeed it is an exciting ray of hope.
( Damn, canŽt use icons for some unknown reason. So take this :O) )

Best,

You are a fortunate man, indeed! A place where you can play your instrument whenever you want, however loud you want!! AND possibly build a studio right next to it?!

I can think of few other dreams that would compete. Ok, winning the lottery and building or buying house with a great studio built in... but that is an incredibly remote possibility. In this world of realities that we CAN create, the one you've got is very hard to beat!

Congratulations, Ruph!

Hey Robert, hey Jax ( long time no talk, man )!

It is great to receive such goodwilling feedback. :O)
IŽm already living there in mind, phantasizing where to put furnitures etc. and how daily life might be on the long run. Very nice also the idea of own fruits ( think mulberry trees, figs, cherriesŽn stuff!) and vegetables once thelike was grown.
I had fresh stuff at my brothers garden in Tessin / Switzerland and man; life really changes with immediately harvested food of full flavour.
-

In the meantime I realized however that thereŽs a tower for amplifying mobile telephones signal maybe 60 or 70 meters from the "studio lot". I almost fear that could be meaning strong RF radiating into audio circuits.

Guess me has to open a separate thread to ask about such. >shiver<

Muchas gracias for the good wishes, amigos! :o)

All the best of luck and congratulations! I live in my wooden house-studio far far from other people. Absolute dream! play and record whenever you like. I know people are concerned about those masts, but I doubt it will cause any problems, there tends to be too much paranoia about everything these days.

Thanks a lot for the good wishes, Faramita!

The building already in existance unfortunately is not of wood and not as distant from neighbours as yours, but it shall be alright for playing some acoustic guitar. Should the other house become real it would be further away and hopefully wooden too. :O)

What the cellphone tower is concerned ...
Guess IŽll be sticking to my initial plans of building the studio there, for I like the area otherwise; hoping that those microwaves were to be of no interference to audio or health, however without being really convinced yet. Seems a bit like a risk game still. ( I checked about shielding a building and issues about that. Such alone would be pretty of a hazzle and required investment.)

Reading what concerned parents gathered about cellphone tower radiation appears to be needing a bit of optimism to forget about it.
Quote:
... Internationally acknowledged experts in the field of RF research have shown that RF of the type used in digital cellular antennas and phones can have critical effects on cell cultures, animals, and people in laboratories and have also found epidemiological evidence (studies of communities, not in the laboratory) of serious health effects at "non-thermal levels," where the intensity of the radiation was too low to cause heating. They have found:

Increased cell growth of brain cancer cells(4)
A doubling of the rate of lymphoma in mice(5)
Changes in tumor growth in rats(6)
An increased number of tumors in rats(7)
Increased breaks in double and single stranded DNA, our genetic material(8)
2 to 4 times as many cancers in Polish soldiers exposed to RF(9)
More childhood leukemia in children exposed to RF(10)
Changes in sleep patterns and REM type sleep(11)
Headaches caused by RF exposure(12)
Neurologic changes(13) including
Changes in the blood-brain-barrier(14)
Changes in cellular morphology (including cell death)(15)
Changes in neural electrophysiology (EEG)(16)
Changes in neurotransmitters (which affect motivation and pain perception)(17)
Metabolic changes (of calcium ions, for instance)(18)
Cytogenetic effects (which can affect cancer, Alzheimer's, neurodegenerative diseases)(19)
Decreased memory, attention, and slower reaction time in school children(20)
Retarded learning in rats indicating a deficit in spatial "working memory"(21)
Increased blood pressure in healthy men(22)
Damage to eye cells when combined with commonly used glaucoma medications(23)

Many national and international organizations have recognized the need to define the true risk of low intensity, non-thermal RF exposure, calling for intensive scientific investigation to answer the open questions. These include:

The World Health Organization, noting reports of "cancer, reduced fertility, memory loss, and adverse changes in the behavior and development of children."(24)
The U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)(25)
The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC)(26)
The Swedish Work Environmental Fund(27)
The National Cancer Institute (NCI)(28)
The European Commission (EC)(29)
New Zealand's Ministry of Health(30)
National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia(31)
Commonwealth Scientific Industrial Research Organization of Australia (CSIRO)(32)

Non-thermal effects are recognized by experts on RF and health to be potential health hazards. Safe levels of RF exposure for these low intensity, non-thermal effects have not yet been established.

The FDA has explicitly rejected claims that cellular phones are "safe."(33)

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has rejected the current (ANSI/IEEE) safety standards because they are based on thermal effects alone.(34)

Many scientists and physicians question the safety of exposure to RF. The CSIRO study, for example, notes that there are no clear cutoff levels at which low intensity exposure has no effect, and that the results of ongoing studies will take years to analyze.(35)

The county of Palm Beach, FL, the state of California, and the country of New Zealand have all prohibited cellular antennas near schools due to safety concerns.
