Thread Starter | Great experience with Stephen Sank.
I just wanted to write about my interaction with Mr. Sank since I had previously read posts here on Gearslutz and other forums questioning his reputation. Having done this research, I was initially concerned about sending him my not-so-healthy Beyer M320 ribbon---but after a long phone conversation ( He's actually very easy to get a hold of and rather generous with his knowledge.) I decided to give him a chance---primarily because he expressed so much enthusiasm about this particular mic. The Beyer came back to me well before the time estimated for repairs and it sounded great. He even spent additional time on the phone afterwards explaining what was done to the mic and how to care for the new ribbon he had installed. Anyway, I'm not affiliated with Stephen Sank in any way---just a freelance engineer wanting to relate a different experience than some of the ones I had read about on forums like this before. Thanks, Jeff |

I know this thread is a month old, but I just got back 2 77dx's from Sank and they are great. I had always used ENAK but the past couple of times with ENAK, I was never completely sold on how my mics sounded afterwards. Sank called and told me that the ribbon thickness was wrong. I don't know what was in it nor what Sank put in it, but hearing them after Sank, I believe what he told me. I have read mixed reviews on Sank for years, but he definitely seems to be well versed in ribbon knowledge and my turnaround and work was good. I'm not pushing Sank over ENAK, but I'll probably go with Sank next time. Druhms |

Just got an email from Mr Sank. Bought an RCA74B on eBay which was sent directly from seller to Stephen for service. He got it today, and it's already serviced! Re-ribboned and a new cable. Can't wait to get it home!.. Good communication and no problems so far. Just hope the mailman does his job as well... So it seems +1 |

Mic came. Love it! Very coloured. Lo fi/vintage. Have had some contact with Mr Sank after that. He's great!

BTW, here's his warranty: Warranty on the work is one year, excluding gross abuse. However, warranty will be honored if photographic or forensic evidence is provided of the savage beating given to the idiot who blew into the mic. Warranty will be extended an additional six months if video is provided of the bludgeoning. ![]() ![]() |
