My studio is complete!

Er, well, there's always that high-end preamp...and oh yeah, that other microphone. And hmmm, a compressor maybe? Stuff from the Portico line? Yeah, a whole rack of Crane Song. And...

Well anyway I finally have everything together and picked out and set up and I've just now gotten back into actually making some tracks and such! It's amazing how easy everything is now to do compared to the old days. There isn't a single thing left at the same level it was a year ago. Every damn inch and wire of this rig has been thought, re-thought, tested, and overhauled. Woohoo!

Anyway, you have a good news channel forum, so I thought I'd post this in it. Pardon me if I indulge in a bit of conspicuous consumption--highlights of the celebrity makeover:

ADAM S3A's + sub replaced HR824's
Gik panels replaced Sonex
HD600s/DT770s replaced HD535s/7506s (ouch!)
M149 replaced AT4060
Mojave MA-200 replaced KM184
MD441 replaced beta 57A
TRP + DTC replaced MP20 + Symetrix 202
Real amps (even bass amps!) replaced simulators
Ridiculously slutty acoustics replaced Taylor & Seagull
Art Vista and Ivory replaced Reason and Roland pianos
TD-12 replaced drumming on a keyboard
dfhS/C&V replaced Clearmountain samples
UAD-1 + Massey replaced Bomb Factory/Digi/Waves
Altiverb & Plate 140 replaced tc M300 & MPX100
Mac Pro Quad 2.66 & 4 Megapixels replaced MDD Dual 1.25 & 2.5 Mp
Fanless, no-moving-parts control room replaced groaning computers and clicking harddrives (using redco cables to machine room)
003 Console + MPTK & ADI-2 replaced 001 + Mixing with a Mouse

As I've often said, I coulda boughta Porsche, but this is more fun to drive, and takes me more interesting places!

Thanks Gearslutz for all your help in learning about these choices. I was just looking over the local nightlife weekly and noticed that a few acts I had discovered & developed with the old rig were headlining some of the larger venues this weekend, and another couple of them are on the front pages of some of the hipper new labels' websites. I look forward to what the new rig can do!

Cheers. I'll leave everything else to your imagination.

The things that still suck about my studio are architectural...maybe someday I'll have a proper space to work in with real drums and real pianos and a broadband noisefloor under 10dbSPL. But that's what I use real studios for. It's always going to be cheaper to even get a lockout at a great room than to build one of your own. (It might not be as cool, though ) The stuff on my list is about all I can do with the space I have and anything more is probably just overkill (trading e.g. acoustical noise for electronic noise).

But then there is that fancy preamp...

Just wondering what acoustic guitars you got? Seagull and Taylor are my two favorites.
