Cool Request: Gearslutz Chatroom

I had a paltalk chatroom I used to keep up from time to time (roughly only 10 people a day would show up). Just wondering/requesting a Gearslutz chatroom. Something along the lines of Digichat or the like. However, if this would require gearslutz to charge membership fees, forget I said anything. (just look at what it did the RO)

I will look into it. That might be fun.

Charging? Open a window someone! Pe-uw! madd

We will take a short break while the smell in the control room clears!

(runs for window)

tut

I hereby state that charging is catagorically not going to happen.

I will delete any post and / or ban anyone that refers to it as a punishment for not paying attention. Read it again.

I don't see why you couldn't use AIM. Just pick a name for a chatroom like Gearslutz. Whenever someone wants to chat, they can put themselves on their own buddylist and click "send chat invitation". After you hit the chat invite botton it has a place for you to name the chatroom. If everyone always types in Gearslutz, everyone will always end up in that room. That would be the free way to do it. Eventually someone will make a buddylist with everyone's name on it and just invite everyone that signs on to AIM as they sign on.

Nasty security risk. :-(

As is IM..

I'll see if I can dig out a web based chat that is:-

a) Free

b) Easy to configure in a fetching shade of violet

c) Easy to use

Jules email me if you want to discuss this further..

Chatroom!?!

WTF????

Dude, you hanging out on AOHell again with the pervs? I only use it for email, the rest of it has been uncharted territory sine the days of Craig Andertons SSS. And frankly, it's a bit scary.

I am curious to see how this effects posts on the board. I would anticipate a lot of good info being lost to chat, but who knows.....

No problems here, but I see others commenting on it. How are you connected? Dial-up by any chance?

I just spent about an hour in there. Kinda weird but kinda cool. Just because I'm a moderator doesn't mean I know what's going on!

great idea!!

Although, I also agree that precious info/topics may get lost in the chat sessions seeing that they don't get saved.

Anyhow, it will be very interesting to see what comes out with this.

When I go to the chatroom it just sits there loading.

Ever think about just using IRC for a chat room? I've always liked IRC.

I think Mac's might be having trouble with the chat room, Who cant see it running a Mac?

ME! - (Mac)

The chat room isnt 100% permanent, its a trial period. It will get tweaked! Or switched off, hell, lets have fun with it while its there!

I can login and see the users list on the right as well as my bar to type in stuff. But the main part of the screen with the actual chatroom remains empty. After a while i get time-out message.
I'm using Safari.
