Rosetta 800 makes a HUGE difference.. PERFECT

From DIGI002 and OCtopre i moved to the API3124+ into line inputs 5-8 on the digi.

I enjoyed the added gain and API sound but I thought it was bass heavy and very thick.

I jsut recieved the Rosetta800 and through ADAT running API3124 as first 4 channels.

MAN

HUGE difference... very welcome and VERY positive difference... Its clearer.. all around.. much much clearer and AB'ing with my tracks from earlier this week.. makes the API into line inputs (digi's A/D) sound really really bad.. a black and white difference.. not minimal and subtle.. but a big difference.

I wish someone let me know earlier how BIG the difference is between the Rosetta converters sound and the Digi A/D or Octopre A/D.

When I bought the API3124, the studio buff who sold it to me said "buying the API3124 instead of the Digi preamps onboard the 002, will make a huge difference. more than the Rosetta 800 will..The Rosetta800 A/D vs the Digi002 A/D has a more subtle sound difference"

I think the OPPOSITE.. the Rosetta has brought all the life to this API preamp.. it sounds GREAT...

i would recommend people to get the Rosetta800 if you haven;t already.

I felt the same way when I got my Rosetta 200. I went from an 001, to an
RME adi-pro, and finally to the Apogee. The difference between the 001 &
the RME was slight, but the Apogee was huge. I wish someone would've
told me, too.

question

im tracking with the Rosetta right now and comparing old files with the similar setup (U195mic>API3124>Rosetta800>Digi002)

and i am noticing that Rosetta converter vs Digi A/D converter..

Rosetta sounds cleaner in the mids and more accurate.. less 'muffled' sounding than the Digi002 A/D

but..

I also hear more sibilance and high freq Brightness.. that the Digi A/D never showed me.

Is this a factor of running the APIs digitally into the 002??? and thats nature with digital converters sending out ADAT??? or is the bright SSS's a;ready there and the Apogee shows me they exist, but the Digi never could show me???

thanks

Compare the Rosetta to a 192 I/O. The difference is still there.
Great Purchase.

I swear I think the clock and ADDA is the FIRST place people should look to upgrade.

D/A on the APogee vs using the DIGI002 monitor outputs, control outs, etc...

Apogee much clearer again.. totally sold on this thing.

So the question is: Do i have to get a Mackie Big Knob now? to simulate the backpanel of the 002 to route the stereo source to my monitors, headphone amp, etc...

And.. maybe ditching the 002, getting the Xfirewire card and thats it. Firewire to the computer

ooof! careful not to muck up that nice clean signal. Try something passive ie: Coleman audio. Your apogees'll thank you

You can't use the FW card with Protools. Others, yes, but not Protools. You have to have a Digi/Maudio device in between the apogee.

Before I had a way to control the monitor vol. I used to send ADAT 7&8 on the Rosetta to the amps and then pop up a fader on screen to control them.

Just be really freakin' careful.
