Crowded House has a new drummer

After auditions in Sydney, Los Angeles, and London, Crowded House have settled on Matt Sherrod (Beck, Macy Gray) as their new drummer to replace the late Paul Hester.

I think their new album is going to be very interesting and I can't wait to hear it. It started off as a Neil Finn solo album, albeit with CH's Nick Seymour on bass. Ethan Johns was reportedly behind the board for these sessions (and Joey Waronker on drums). The record was reportedly mixed before they made it official and reformed Crowded House. Guitarist/keyboardist Mark Hart back into the fold, but it's unclear if he played on any of the early sessions. Auditions were held for a permanent drummer (Waronker was already commited to REM) and they chose Matt. The band headed to London to rehearse and are now reportedly recording a few more songs for the album with the new lineup, this time with Steve Lillywhite at the desk and Johnny Marr sitting in on guitar!

Good news now if only Tim Finn would join in...

I miss Paul- I knew him from back in Oz and it was such a blow when he died.
We both suffer from bipolar disorder- when he died I started getting help for mine.

Glad the band is back though.

My sister has bipolar disorder and she finally sought out help after many years. It is good you are getting help.

same, I LOVED his drumming, so much character, actually the great thing about crowded house is that all 3 members added so much, it wasn't just a singer with backing band. this new guys got some big shoes to fill

WOW, can't wait to hear the end result of that collaboration!

Some of the old Crowded House stuff is my reference material, "Fall At Your Feet" sounds sooooo nice.

Speaking of Neil + Johnny Marr, anyone get to see the "7 Worlds Collide" concert DVD?? There's some great musical moments on that. Lisa Germano - oh my God. Johnny Marr - enough said. Sebastian Steinberg - shit-a-brick. Oh, and the guys from Radiohead on drums and guitar.

Bob Clearmountain's mix is phenomenal. If I were devising a marketing campaign for Bob it would go something like: "Bob Clearmountain - doing things with an SM58 that other mixing engineers can only dream of".
