Industry finally getting it together?

Cnn Article

To me this is some good news, though late in coming. The industry needs to fight back! I see ads for the Kazaa Revolution all over the city and it makes me sick. revolting

I can't see why the ISP's aren't being held responsible. I realize that it's a legal grey area, but to me it seems as if they are aiding and abetting an illegal activity and even promoting it in some of their advertising here.

I see what you mean, maybe its time for the guys from Metallica or someone else who's able to afford it and sew them.
Like it happend to Napster & Co.
On the other hand im surprised about how many musicians that i know use Kazzaa on a daily basis & copieing every album one of there band members or friends buy.
Strange world

They aren't being held responsible because they cut a deal in Congress that protected them from litigation in exchange for helping copyright owners identify and prosecute infringer's. Verizon now wants to have it both ways.

My 2 Cents

I think the problem is, people like metallica fighting file sharing. No one is going to simpathize with lars ulrich, who lives in a mansion, and is a multi multi multi million dollar rock star. Espcially people who are poor and downloading his songs. Rather the new artists, and emerging little guyz need to fight. We all know that a hit song can make a new bands album sales chart high, but with file sharing, that opportunity is taken, because people download that hit song, rather than buying a cd. So the little guyz, from the middle to the bottom should start rearing their teeth, because were the ones who are getting screwed.

I think the new anti-piracy ads they play at the start of movies are brilliant. The show gaffers, gribs, electricians, stunt ment, lighting guys, all talking about the work that goes into making a movie. None of them are making 20 million a picture, they're just making a decent paycheck for doing a good work. The tag line is "My name is _____, and I make movies."

An ad campaign like that with audio engineers, studio musicians, gear manufacturers, marketting guys, etc. might be really effective.

Puts things in perspective for people.

Screwed worse than they can possibly imagine. An entire generation is having zero invested in their careers because the investors can't see where they'll possibly make their money back. This is actually where Lars is coming from because he KNOWS what it takes investment-wise to build a career in music.

Hi y'all,

I don't know if you guys know about proucts like this, but over here there's this little company (fruitytech.com) that invented some sort of water-mark for audio...
they found a way to put an ID inside audio that is traceable even when the source is copied in an analogue way, when resampled (I even head they can trace an ID from someone who's on the phone when listening to a track on the radio ... spooky )

We have had one legal case of a kid having downloaded a FREE mp3 from a site and then had put it on a P2P-network .. the kid was traced through the watermark...
