Well, the only good song on Lateralus is mostly in 4/4, so that makes 2. lol (Parabola)

I hope they get away from the gothy sound of their last album. I like some gothy music but give me some guitar rock with dynamics that The Pumpkins are known for.

Looking forward to seeing them in concert again. They have great shows.

Jax,

Firstly it is clear that you don't even know what math rock sounds like.

Secondly, the guy fukking kills. See him live and listen to the rhythm section, Danny and Justin together. They groove like no other hard rock outfit can at the moment.

Danny is soulful and tasteful, unlike the Jordison's and Portnoy's of this world.

Did anyone notice that Billy Corgan started sound more and more like Popeye with every album?

I think they were cool until they hooked up with Flood. Who knows if it was the Pumpkins or Flood, but I also liked P.J. Harvey until she hooked up with Flood.

Well that's an in depth summation of my knowledge of math rock. You must be psychic.

It sounds like most Tool songs. fuuck

Send me a free ticket and MAYBE I'll go... but I can think of a long list of other places I'd rather be. I've heard enough cold algebra from their albums to know it ain't my cuppa.

If you like that shit, good for you.

It's even worse on the Zwan album.

Max, I think, for the first itme on this forum, I am not in total 100% agreement with your tastes. I like Floods productions allot.

How do you feel about Alan Moulder? Just curious, I have found we seem to have very similar tastes in things, and now I am curious.

I dont have big expectations for the new album...I don't think it's going to be commercial success. Billy Corgan is the type of artist that worked well with state of the industry in the 90s...but now as it is, he can't lift his projects up anymore.

well here is a link to the new single. sounds like the pumpkins to me. its a radio mix so the vocals are a little more loud and clear.

I love most of the Pumpkins stuff...upto Mellon Collie. However, this new single seems/sounds somewhat contrived and lacking of soul to me.

I thought Adore had some really good material. It was not a flop by no means. Listen to the track "for martha". That is some great song writing. Yes Chamberlin is the awesome but the Corg is the heart and soul of that band. I would also reccomend "Machina" and the free "Machina II". Corgan's solo album "the future embrace" is very different than the pumpkins stuff but excellant. I hated it the first time i heard it, but i gave it a shot and it grew on me.

Mellon Collie is definately lacking some production. THe mixes are ok but the overall mastering sucks big time. They should for sure remaster.

Losing him back before the Adore days really was their biggest mistake, and I think Corgan would agree.

My biggest problem with Mellon Collie was the inconsistancy of the production. Although the songs were great the mixes often sounded like shitty rehearsal demos.

Can't find my copy of Siamese Dream anywhere... Grrrrr....

The new "Tarantula" song made my right eyebrow rise up high. The vocals sound odd, to me it sounds kind of totally separate thing glued on a backing track.
The song is pretty odd too but no bad. I used to be huge SP fan back in the Gish, SD, MCIS days, so I'm kind fo interested in the forthcoming album but I don't dare to put any expectations on it.

and oh, Jimmy is the best drummer ever. It is amazing how he could put loads of stuff into a song without having anything extra/too much. I hate "good" players whose playing is full of unneccessary gimmicks.

Speaking bout drummers one shoud name John Stanier. He´s´an awesome drummer and was a very important part of Helmet. Nowadays he plays the drums for "battles" a very good and weird band on warp records. Definaltely worth listening to it.

oh, to make aconnection to smashink pumpkins, he also played drums on Melissa auf der Maur´s Solo Record.

Billy Corgan has just lost it, in my opinion. He has become so out of touch with just about everything (which is funny the way his vocals are mixed way too separately on his last couple albums,) and his songwriting has suffered. I thought Adore, Machina, and Machina II (except for some of the older stuff) were nothing compared to Gish, Siamese Dream, and Melon Collie (same with Zwan and his solo album.) And this is coming from a guy who literally owns over 40 hard-copy Pumpkins albums/singles/"official" bootlegs/etc. They used to be my favorite band. Until Adore. You can rationalize it all you want, but his songwriting and overall inspiration just went downhill, and if you don't want to admit that, that's okay, they were decent albums that had a couple decent songs, but they don't hold a candle to the older stuff and you know it. Now not even James Iha wants anything to do with him, and he was on that terrible APC album! I've warmed up to Machina a little bit recently, but that's after over half a decade of hardly anything good coming out at all, so I'm kinda grasping at straws at this point. The Pumpkins have been done for quite some time. I'll listen to the new album when it comes out, but I'm not holding my breath.

Oh, and please don't re-master Melon Collie. They need to focus on making their new crappy stuff good, not their old good stuff crappy.

I can't disagree more. Adore is a masterpiece and very inspired. I think many people simply did not "get" Adore when it came out, but it's since found it's sea legs and gained steadily in reputation.

I'm afraid I would have to agree with AlexLakis.. I thought Adore was absolute pants and gets worse with every listen. I respect that you like it though - it's not shit per se, it's just shit for me.

I respect your respect, just cause it was about 4500 miles from rock most people hate it. IMO, Lyriclly its the best SP record by far, by FAR. and the production is still not dated with 10 years behind it. I like all of their 90's output, and I enjoy them because they have many "shapes". Adore had a nice shape.

Do you hear/see the influence Adore had?

Ok ok you win - I'll put the cd in my car for a week and see if I understand it now - a week SP!! A week is all you get!

By the way I think it's the singing I couldn't handle in Adore - he really sounds like he is deaf in places.

I love the internet. It has changed my perception of time. A conversation that would seem to be finished 2 years ago can come back alive as if it had been going on yesterday.

Can one really confidently call a gorgeous song like "Once Upon A Time" shit? Even if not per se?

LMAO - missed this comment - max cooper, sorely missed.

@vonrichter - you are right, great song, I think in some ways I had this album mixed up with the one that came after - the machina thing. Adore is not that bad, but it's no siamese dream/mellon collie imho.
