AWA BAP3 Ge Preamp - mod advice needed

Hi,

this is my first post here so please be gentle

i few weeks back i bought a very old AWA preamp, it has a quite large input transformer and an even bigger output transformer and its fitted out with germanium transistors.

Sound good so far right?

well the bad news it its not working right and im not sure how to fix it, ive built a few pedals n stuff but ive still got a lot of learning to do :P

its noisy and am getting a lot of distortion the further down the circuit i look with a scope.

have no idea of the specs of the transformers either. nice challenge all round aye

Ive traced out a schem and i was hoping someone here might be able to shed some light on whats its doing with a view to improve it where possible..

i wonder what class of amp it is and how much (-)voltage it should need to work right.. am not sure the ps is outputing the right volts to drive it correctly... have replaced all the caps but that hasnt made any real difference.

potential just hasto be there, listening to music through the input transformer alone sounds just heavenly...its like some kind of audio glue i havent heard before.. makes things just sound very sweet and warm when pushed just below clipping, the bottem end gets more solid and harshness disappears..YUM!

i have a JLM ps and go-between+DI kits on the way to start it off. i hope it can supply enough (-)volts to run it.

id like it to be a world class pre but need some advice on what to do with this circuit.
