OK to turn all gear on at once?

Can someone tell me if it would damage my equipment in some way to power everything on simultaneously? I'd like to turn everything on and off from the power strip everything's connected to (leaving all my outboard gear permanently switched on.) But people have told me that I should turn things on one be one in the order of signal flow, and off in the opposite order. If this is so, why? Do people in pro studios really turn all that equipment on individually day after day? I know at the very least that I should turn all outboard gear on before turning on my computer.. Anyway, I'd appreciate if someone could explain this issue to me. My outboard gear includes mic power supply, pres, compressers and converters.

I do exactly that, fire up my whole rack incl. all pres /comps/converters and the 002 all at once.

It works so why should I be concerned? I guess a fuse would shorten if anything was wrong but again no problems so far ( roughly 1 year)

And naturally the active monitors go on last after everything else is glowing.

The general rule is to turn on your power amps last, so your amps and speakers won't be subjected to all the thumps, etc, that happen when the rest of your gear powers up. In my rig, the stuff you hear when Pro Tools is firing up is especially nasty.

Hi
If the current surge at switch on is not excessive have 2 switches, One for monitor amps / powered monitors which goes ON second and OFF first, the other switch does all the rest. You could have more switches if you want to save computer monitors or whatever.

My thought was I occasionally turn things on one by one because some equipment will have a massive, although short term, power draw when you turn them on. By turning on all of the equipment at once you could be more likely to pop a circuit.
