Thread Starter | Marshall cab impedence question???
I have a marshall cab loaded with vintage 30's... a 16ohm speaker. What is the rule for figuring out how to wire them up for different impedences. Stock with 4 of them the input impedence to the cab is 16ohms. I'm familar with the series/parralel concept but can't remember ohms law well enough to figure it out. Thanx |

in series the impedance is additive in parallel Total Load = (S1 x S2) / (S1 + S2) Where: S1 = the impedance of Speaker load # 1 S2 = the impedance of Speaker load # 2 i got that here ******//colomar.com/Shavano/spkr_wiring_sp.html ian |

You don't really need ohms law to figure out imedances. If you've got 4 16 ohm speakers wired up to produce 16 ohms and the input, then the speakers are wired as 2 set of speakers in series connected in parallel. The rule for speakers in series is add the impedances together, 16 + 16. The rule for speakers in parallel is take the value of one speaker and divide it by how many speakers in parallel you have (assuming all speakers are the same impedance), 16 / 2 = 8 So if each series pair is 16 + 16 = 32, then each 32 ohm leg in parallel is 32 / 2 = 16 So your options are: Stock series-parallel connections: 16 ohms In series: 64 ohms, (probably not what you want, huh) In parallel: 16 / 4, 4 ohms
