Sennheiser MD421 HL wiring?

How do I wire my MD421 HL? I seem to recall it being unbalanced??
It seems VERY quiet when using a standard cable...
TIA

What do you mean by "HL"? all my 421s are balanced - did you take it apart or something??

Nope, it's called the 421 HL.
I found this online
"It was a version that could be wired to 1500 (or was it 1000?) ohm as
well as the usual 200 ohm impedance. HL stands for High-Lo. The one I
saw had a Tuchel connector. Other than that I think it's the same. ""

Learn something every day... Is your a Tuchel, or what? I'm guessing it has four wires and you need to know which two to use - can't help there except to say you can experiment as long as you have the tools and know-how.
Just googled and saw this beauty:

I'd imagine the impedance change is internal - no idea of the pinout for the tuchel to XLR adaptor, but you can find out. I would assume it is low impedance but that is just a guess...

If I didn;'t already have three USA 421s I'd really ewant one of those classic German ones.

David,

The Sennheiser MD-421-HL is one of the older version with the beige (white/grey) exterior, and it have also a Tuchel connector 3 pin DIN 41524 style. (cable connector shall be a female Tuchel T-3261)
The "HL" stand for high and low output impedance, and you can choose between 200 ohm or 24 kohm.
It have also the two position "M/S" (musik/sprache) bass roll-off switch.

Pin 1= 24 kohm (in phase)
Pin 3= 200 Ohms (in phase)
Pin 2= common for both impedance (out of phase)
Connector metal body= ground/shield

Adapter Cable

You can simply just get an adapter cable for it. I lately did so. Used:

HINTON INSTRUMENTS: Klein Tuchel (DIN 41524) to XLR Adapter for -HL

Know this thread is 2 years old. However, someone could be interested.
