Opamp

I'm screwin around with a micpre. The chip is a NJM082BL SIP8 format opamp. It seems pretty stock and maybe even chinese. Would replacing this chip improve the performance of said pre? If yes, what other parts/companies make higher quality IC opamps? Thanks, mangs...

Hi
NJM is not necessarily bad, it depends what function it is actually doing.
You have a choice. Cheap stuff that is made in China or expensive stuff made elsewhere. (NJM are not Chinese but Japanese owned).

It's a TL082 dual fet input opamp, you know, the one's that drove up the prices for discrete English consoles...

Without circuit mods, an opamp with a 2~3 mhz gain bandwidth would work well, wider opamps may need some "housecleaning" with phase compensation and power supply decoupling. Try a Linear Tech LT1352 dual in there, it's a very low power opamp (260 ua supply current) with a very good 200 v/us slew rate and low distortion and noise. Yes, it's available from Digi Key in S0-8 packages.
