No Ground on Old Amps

I've got several old tube amps (Harmony, Premier, Fender) that have two prong AC plugs. These amps have a tendency to give one a jolt if you touch another guitar, mic, etc. I'm concerned about the safety of these amps and would like to convert them to safer (as I understand them to be) three-prong, grounded plugs.

How is this accomplished?

Thanks

Hi

It isn't a simple task. You need to obtain the circuit diagram for each amp to see how the manufacturer configured the chassis wiring... some connected ac neutral direct to the chassis and others use switch to reverse this....

This topic is discussed on another forum where some useful guidelines were included but I have to caution that it's not a simple task of connecting the ac ground direct to the chassis.

Yes, the mains will need a total rewire to ensure it's safe and probably should be carried out by competent persons.

What needs to be acheived is the PHASE and NEUTRAL should only feed the primary of the power transformer, via mains fuse and power switch. The earth can then be connected to the chassis.
