| Pin 3 hot mixer I just picked up an old board; manual says it's wired pin 3 hot. Of course, most if not all of my outboard gear is pin 2 hot. What are my options here? I'm going to be making some new snakes, so should I wire them all for pin 3 hot on the mixer side? Is re-wiring the desk for pin 2 hot asking for trouble? Or should I just make special pin 3 hot cables for every connection to this board? ![]() |

| *If* absolutely everything on the board is balanced and XLR, it may not matter because all the signals would retain the correct polarity. But if the board has unbalanced inserts or FX returns (for example), and/or has balanced connectors other than XLR, this method would not be good. I'd vote for dragging the board into the 21st century, by rewiring it pin 2 hot. That would probably be the best long term solution. Usually XLR connectors are fairly accessible, so it might be easy enough to do.

| Yes, Wireing the hot wire to Pin 2 would be the best solution and should be very easy to do, Without out doing it and useing regular cables you might have Phaze problems.... Cheers |

| Before doing that, whats the answer to the question: do you have any unbalanced gear and/or are the insterts or any outs on the mixer unbalanced?
