GROUND LOOP

HELLO GUYS I'M HAVING A BIG GROUND PROBLEM AT MY STUDIO, BUT ONLY WITH GUITAR AMPS,

have 4 different amps and te four of them have the loop but not with every guitar that is plugged into them, and something else, ome guitars that are plugged work like antennas, depending on where you're standing the noise goes on and off. is very wierd and i don'r know what o do to fix,
I would appreciate if smoe knows how to sort this out.

Regards

Hi
Unless you are trying to use a DI on the guitar amp in some way then it is not necessarily a ground loop involving the amp.
It sounds like it is a general power wiring problem in which case switch EVERYTHING off and power your guitar amp from an extension cable from somewhere else (battery powered if possible). Do you have any big transformers nearby? With all switched off the amps should not pick up any significant hum.
We need more info on situation of studio to help any more.

Sounds like par for the course with single coil pickups. They will always pick up 60 cycle hum. Some areas are worse than others. Do you have the problem with humbuckers as well?

I've noticed this problem at quite a few venues. Usually it seems like it's the lights. I'm not really well versed in electronics, but I think it might have something to do with the dimmer packs. I don't know if this translates to your situation, but perhaps it's something similar.

give more details.
where are you located? where is the recording taking place?
garage? basement? apartment room? house in the country?
downtown? Suburb?
also have you tried moving the amp to another outlet? what about have you taken the humming amp and guitar to a friends house? does it still hum?
does it hum MORE or LESS when you face a certain direction?
do you have any breaker panels near by?

more details.

hi Durv, thanks for your help basically i'm located downtown Bogota, Colombia, I have two live room and in both room i get the same noise but when i take them elsewhere they don't hum. I've also tried most of the outlets in the studio and still get some noise with certain guitars. most of the fender guitar i plug into them i have that noise.

Sounds like your power wiring is suspect, not necessarily the socket outlets but maybe lights or power to other rooms.
You will need to investigate this by switching EVERYTHING else off.
