i'm in the process of doing four DIY 1272 and i'm wondering how the heck do i get transformer manufacturers to send me just a few transformers....they all seem to only deal with large orders...any ideas?

Doesn't Sowter make a Neve style input tranny that they sell in in ones and two's? You might also want to give Cinemag a call. They make the Vipre transformers and you can buy them as OEM parts. Good luck!

Wow, Sowter dissed him, huh? That sucks! I'd go with Cinemag then. The type of transformer will be different but it may be cool and unique for you. The model number of the transformer that goes into the Vipre is CM-9955-T. I don't know if it will work for you but it wouldn't hurt to ask. Cinemag's website is www.cinemag.biz Good luck!

You can order online at the Sowter website, I have never had a problem with getting one or two transformers...

I've also used the Sowter online order form and had no probs. The Sowters are no Carnhills tho. But they will get the job done.

Yeah...me neither...never had anything but very kind service from Brian Sowter. Even years back when I did my first designs, and really didn“t know too much he was very understanding, and did take the time to help me out. A very rare, and trustworthy person in my book..;-)

Kind regards

Peter

Hi

Well, I think "Sowter dissing him" sounds a smidge like a misunderstanding. Folk shouldn't diss a company and say, "Oh well, we'll try the other one" without checking things out themselves.

I don't deal much with Sowter now because I have other transformer suppliers that I use but, to be fair to them, I have dealt with them for over 20 years and never been dissed... including ordering small quantities of custom transformers.

The equivalent they make to the Marinair LO1166 is a stock transformer so I really can't see a reason for dissing...

Hi

I'd love to have been privey to the diss conversation... I've always found them very helpful.

I would not think for a teeny moment that a transformer for a vipre would suit a 1272 output stage.

Transformers are very specific items that are designed for a particular application... there's not many that could be defined as generic across different manufacturer's products.
