Trident Fleximix fixup: ground bus bar install?

hi folks, i've got a trident fleximix that i've decided to bring up to snuff. i've done some googling and forum searching, and think i've got a rough guideline of things to do. one of the things i need to do is take the chassis apart and clean it thoroughly(the edge connectors are working kinda shittily), and i want to install a copper bus bar for grounding, as this is one of the things suggested. however, i've never done this before. i've done alot of synth building and rehab, so im quite confident in my soldering/desoldering abilities, i just need an idea of what to do.

am i basically installing a copper wire to double the main earth line in the chassis, soldered to each channels' earth pin, and then tied to the main PSU earth? what gauge? thanks for any help. (ps-may have a few more questions fleximix related, thanks)

you disconnect all channel grounds and solder them all to the bus bar individually rather then through a ribbon cable

Is it absolutely necessary to remove the original grounds?
