Thread Starter | Which 6L6s for silver face Twin?
I've got a late '70s master volume silverface Fender Twin that's overdue for new output tubes. Thanks to the stupid internet, my head is spinning with all the options (last time around, I just bought whatever they had at the store... that was many years ago...). With these things there's never a consensus about what's "best", so what I'm wondering is: 1) Is there any consensus about what I should absolutely avoid? 2) Is the high end of the market worth the money, if I'm not a golden-eared audiophile or studio pro? (If I were either, I wouldn't be here asking dumb questions!) I can go a hundred bucks or more for a set of tubes, but there's not much sense in spending more money on a difference I can't hear. |

i like the tung-Sol made 5881's they are some of my fav's. but for the most part here of late i have just been using the JJ tesla's. the 5881's are more chocolate-y, not for everyone. i have a large selection of great nos tubes and for the most part i do not think you can go wrong with the JJ's.
