Otari MTR90-II head shields

Ok,
Recently aquired an Otari MTR-90-II tape machine and the head shield doesn't want to go up and down nicely. It makes a growling/stuck kinda noise.

If you have the meters down, and have access to the shield assembly, you can "help" it up by pushing on it with your finger and the mechanism will push the shields up. Once in awhile it'll drop on it own too, but you usually have to help it.

Could it be the 2 arms it moves on are bent? I lubed it, and that helped, but its still not 100%.

Anybody familiar with Otari's here?

If you can get at it, I would clean the mechanism before I lubricated it. Without seeing it, I don't know if the failure is mechanical or electrical in nature.

I cleaned and lubed, yeah, should have been totally clear.
It FEELS mechanical. I should be getting a manual next week, I'll have a better idea then!
