| Alternative Capsules in the Shure 55SH
It isn't exactly an original idea to throw a Beta 87 capsule in a Shure 55SH cage. What I want to do is use the RPM 106, the capsule from the SM7's. I think the main issue would be dimensions, since the SM7 capsule looks pretty oblong, but I don't know for sure because nobody really publishes capsule dimensions... pretty understandable.
So this is a twofold question-- First, does anyone have one of those capsules they could measure up for me real quick?
Second, even if the thing hypothetically fit... any ideas what I should expect? In my head, I'm thinking that I'm both getting a really iconic looking mic to show off, and possibly a cheap DIY SM7. I could see body resonances being an issue, especially with all those metal ribs in front of your sound source, but is there no way to combat that?
