Battery replacement On soundtracs console question

Hi guys,

I have been de-modding my soundtracs pc midi 24 desk (the group outs had been modded on every channel in one way or another!) and doing some general cleaning up, in the process i decided to check the master module for mods and whilst checking that I noticed some leakage from the battery....doesn't look like any damage has been done yet! so i am gonna get it outa there.

My question is this - can i still power up the desk whilst waiting for the replacement battery to arrive? I think that the battery is just for patch storage of midi information and that I just won't be able to save info.....but I am not absolutely sure! any help will appreciated.

Also, the volume level is down on the left side of the monitor A outputs, approx half volume and if I monitor out of monitor B outputs on the left channel there is kind of a spitting sound on any sharp attack sounds and bass sounds....any ideas as to what might be causing either or both of these problems. The main mix out is clean and working fine so I can work around the problems at the moment.

Thanks in advance

Yes, you can run without the battery. I've been running for some time without a battery since I don't need to worry about storing memories. My battery was so bad it started eating into traces and causing all sorts of havoc.

Regarding Monitor B, remember that the signal goes to the headphone jack before the rear connector. It is a normalling jack so when the headphones are not patched in, there could be a dirty normal happening.

@mbrebes

cheers! actually I removed the battery already and tried the power up which of course was fine. Same thing had happened with my one! the traces have been exposed and a little corroded , not too badly though and after cleaning up all seems to be fine, it also cleared up an issue with the aux mutes where the aux mutes were flickering on and off, the battery fluid had been shorting the exposed traces.

Seems like a design flaw to me to put batteries above fine trace work like that!
