Where do i find a 75 pin edac connector

Hi

Got 2 looms that terminate on a 75 pin edac male connector with my studer a80 24 trk machine.
Id prefer to use those then make new looms and spend thousands on good cable and connectors.
Cant find a word online abot 75 pin edac. Is mine the onlynne in existance...???

Thanks!

I've never come across a 75 pin one either.

Not to patronise you, but how are you counting 75, by the actual amount of pins or the amount of holes in which pins could fit ? Is it possibly a 90 pin Edac with only 75 pins inserted ?

Edac did not make a 75 pin connector. Give us a photo so we can identify the connector.

Looks like an ELCO connector. Try googling Varicon 8017. should give something to go on.

Hi
I have just done that too and yes it appears in the data sheets as a 8017 series.
Presumably Ebay or similar searches would find one for you or of course asking Studer nicely. There are companies that specialise in 'obsolete' connectors although I can't think of one at the moment.
Good hunting

It seems like a discontinued size. You may find mating shells eventually if you search long enough (maybe years?)

It isn't clear to me exactly what you are trying to do. If you have a Studer A80 with those connectors, and you have two looms with mating connectors, and you said you prefer to use your existing looms, why do you need more connectors?

I agree that Studer (or places that specialize in keeping antique analog equipment running) would be the most likely places for help.

Good point. Is it definitely possible? Have u ever attempted doing that?
Thanks!

I changed my response after you quoted me , but sure, if you have the pin removal tool (or a narrow hair pin) you can pop them out and insert them into another shell.

But if you need to connect to your A80, that doesn't seem like a viable option (which is why I changed my previous response).

Guess i didnt make myself clear.
The machine have these special round connectors on the back.
It came with 2 looms that have that round connector on the end that connects to the machine, and the 75 pin elcos on the other end where it used to go into the patch bay of the console it used to work with.

I want to use these expensive looms to connect to a patch bay of my own. So the first thing would be to try to find these connectors for the back of my patch bay. Otherwise its getting rid of the elcos and resoldering the whole thing again to whatever other connectors.

Oh. Then I would just get some current 90-pin shells and transfer the pins. It is easier than it sounds. When you pop the pins out of the 75-pin shells, confirm that the retaining "barb" is still sticking out enough to engage the new shell. You can gently bend them out to restore the proper engagement.

They sell pin-removal tools. You may be able to find one for cheap on eBay, etc. But I have also used a filed-down hair-pin (or flattened paper-clip) so it will fit in the little slot beside the pin.

The sources that show that number online are special order with minimum quantity of 25, etc. Sounds like it is a dead side that I would avoid.

Typo. I meant dead SIZE. When I tried looking up the number, the vendors who show that part show that it is not in stock and the minimum order is 25 units. Manufacturers like AVX typically don't sell directly to end-users, they use distributors like Avnet, etc.

But maybe you can get a couple of "samples" from AVX since it seems like nobody stocks them.
