Modify a behringer bcr

So basically I wanna put it in a new housing so that I can configure it the way I want.
And I get rid of the ugly behringer box

Can it be done as simple as to just move the knobs out of the pcb board with wires?

I am indeed a beginner at electronics but I think it is super exiting.
So I have to get me some learn by doing projects

Unless you have VERY GOOD soldering skills, attempting to do what you are describing carries a high likelihood of ending in disaster. There are MANY solder connections for each of those controls, mostly because of the displays. Just successfully removing one of those without destroying it (and/or the PC board) will be a major task.

And then even if you can get them out of the board in working condition, you will need to design and make your own board to hold them in your new configuration. Those controls and displays don't attach to the panel, they are held in place by the PC board underneath.

IMHO, this is NOT a beginner project. It would be challenging even for an experienced hacker.

Thank you for your reply!
I was afraid of that.

Then I will go the route of building a new one.

Kikk-

If you haven't already, skim around the MIDIBox site. There's probably already a core circuit over there you could use and custom configure.

Do be aware though, even working with a pre-existing circuit and brain like that, the design/construction and all will be a pretty heavy job in and of itself.

Good luck on it!

Those encoders in the BCR are almost impossible to de-solder without a PCB board heater and a very good de-soldering iron and good quality braid.

I de-soldered one once to try and find the part number and it was a nightmare.

It would be too easy to damage the PCB unless you've had a good amount of soldering experience. I'm not saying you can't do it, but I am saying that it probably isn't worth the effort.

Time would be better spent mastering this software ctrlr.org • Index page if the hardware is an issue, but I like the feel of a real knob in my hand as much as the next man and so I persevere with my BCR
