MACKIE HD vs JBL EON

Hi there,

I want to buy some live pa equipment for outdoor events, bars and halls.

I am considering the JBL Eon vs the Mackie HD

Any advice?

Opinions about which is better?

Thanks in advance

B

Generally, JBL is a good choice. In this low-end speaker-on-a-stick market, I'd be inclined toward the Mackies, though.

Why would you be inclined to go with the mackies?

Generally of better design in this bracket. The high-end JBL stuff is at least as good as the EAW boxes. But, in the low price designs, Mackie tends to deliver better performance.

I haven't heard the new Mackie Sound-on-stick boxes. But, the EON was not quite up to music reproduction like the QSC, Cerwin-Vega, or EV speakers I auditioned.

I'm a big fan of the old jbl eon 15.
Passive only though, very easy to blow the active ones.
I've not tried the new ones.

I've never heard a mackie that I liked the sound of.... at all. They sound very hard edged to me.

Some of it comes down to taste. I never did like how most 15" woofers interacted with horns without a midrange. Never could get a good balance between direct and reverberant field responses I liked in a live room.

The QSCs are quite nice - I ended up with the CVA-28 because of the superior pattern control.
