Weber Speakers SPL?

Hope this is in the right Forum.
Does anyone have any info on the SPL of the Weber Speaker range?
I was specifically looking for the db rating of their version of the P12Q and P12R.
I am trying to find a decent speaker which is inefficient for recording at home to pair with an 18-20 watt Marshall Head so 96db and below would be good?

The Webers are reputed to be a "little" more sensitive and a "little" brighter than a Jensen P12Q. The Jensen is rated at 95 dB SPL @ 1 watt, so the Weber is probably a couple of dB higher (maybe 96 or 97?).

If that's still too sensitive you can pad it down by 10.5 dB with a power "L" pad. An 8 ohm series resistor with a 2 ohm parallel resistor (with an 8 ohm speaker) will drop the sensitivity by 10.5 dB.

The 20 W. amp is going to saturate before the Weber speaker anyway.

With the pad, instead of the 108-110 dB SPL you'd get at saturation, you should expect to be at about 100dB SPL with the resistor pad.

Thanks for your input Lotus 7 I didn't know you could pad it down, or rather I heard about this but haven't really looked into it because I didn't really understand the term. I understand now and thanks for the diagram, i really appreciate it.
Regarding the Jenson? Ive never heard them but are you saying that they sound a little darker than the Weber? They sound like they might help complete a good home set up as far as volume and using the amps full potential are concerned.

The Jensen P12s are a "been around forever" vintage standard that was originally designed in 1960. they will handle 40 to 80 watts (P12Q) and are a decent replacement speaker for vintage guitar amps. Not cheap, but generally worth the price.

The Jensen P12Q has pretty high output up to 5kHz and then "drops like a rock" The Weber probably goes up a little higher. Not a gigantic difference. You might be able to make the Weber sound like the Jensen with a little tweeking of the "highs" tone control (turn it down), but probably not the other way around.

If you're looking for more "speaker" saturation (not just the tube amp sound) the P12R will give you that "dirty" effect at a lower power level. They both have the same sensitivity, but the "R" version bottoms out sooner.

Thanks that is really useful. I think then the P12R sounds interesting. That is what I like about 112 cabs, it enables me to own a few that differ in tonal qualities and actually use them at home (I can stack 4 of them in a corner somewhere ready to use). Appreciate your help Lotus 7
