Roland Jx-3P Volume Pot

Hi,

I am after a replacement volume pot for my Roland JX-3P, and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for a new/aftermarket/reconditioned one. I have tried a few trusted sources like Syntaur and another spares dept based in Europe but sadly no luck so far.

Spec: Rotary dual band 10KOhm

Thanks

Are you sure there's a problem with the pot, is it broken or just scratchy?

When I had the panel board out replacing the sens slider, I put some switch cleaner on the pot because it was profoundly crackly. Sadly when I put it back together it become worse by becoming more crackly and touch sensitive. What's even more worse is that I loose the stereo balance whilst playing the keyboards, which calls for constant adjustment to the volume pot. So I thought I would try and source a replacement.

I've got a JX-3P and the thought crossed my mind for a short instant to open it up and see what you need.... too much work.
Any chance you could get a picture of it and how it mounts?

I did find an ebay site/page that had a pot for a Juno 106 (shown below), but it didn't note the value. Maybe yours is physically similar as it's close to the same vintage(?)

If you don't already have the service manual it can be downloaded at.... Service manual, eprom result list | ElektroTanya | Service manuals and repair tips for electronics experts (roland jx-3p in search box)

Something like this may do
5pcs B10K Dual Potentiometer Pots 15mm Split Shaft 6pin | eBay
but you will need to bend the bottom pins over and solder some wires to the top legs.Isn't there a cage type thing that actually holds the potentiometer to the circuit board? This takes the strain so you needn't worry about the type of pot used. The chances of you finding an original pot like that in the JX is very slim to none.
I never use any contact cleaners on pots. They are poo for this job. I use a very thin coating of Contralube 770 or just use a syringe to fill the pot with isopropyl alcohol and turn the pot about 100 times. Sometimes that works. You need to learn how to take a pot apart and clean it properly to get any positive results.

Cheers guys

Thanks for the guidance. Yes that's correct, there is a cage that is soldered into the pcb board that holds it in as well as the 6 legs. So as you say I should be able to keep the original 6 pins in and solder an after market one to the existing legs.

Thank you for the link for the manual too

I'll have to find a uk site version first. I have previously completed a thread about changing the sens slider on the panel board with some macro images. Will do the same with this thread. I've already labeled the wire harness inside the synth and it's still 3/4 stripped, so it shouldn't take long to take her apart again

just thought i would update this thread with my progress so far...

Managed to locate a pot at my local electronics store. As the legs on the original part are bending towards the pcb board at 90 degrees, I had to imitate immediately replicate the geometry to suit. After 1 experimental cock up, and another trip to the electronics store I managed to conquer my demise by intersecting copper wire to the new straight legs, and all seems to fit snug into the pcb.

I've not quite finished as I need to actually solder the new copper legs to the pcb board, but thought I would upload a picture of what I have done. Will update this thread regarding subsequent progress :-)

After reading this thread, I checked the specs on the Juno-106 volume pot, and it is the same. So we do have this pot at Syntaur, part #4874.
